why pay 150 for a diverter?...

when you can make it for $20!
I learned to weld last week, so i went down to lowes, bought some 16 gauge stainless sheet for $15 and paid a friend $5 for electricity and 2 hours of cutting and welding later

voala. (sorry for crappy cell-phone pic.. only camera i have on hand)

may not be the pretiest (compared to alta and ddm) but it functions just as well, bringing down my temps by ~20F (its 67 out side today.. after install my temps were at 80-81 F)

I would love to make and sell them for $70 ea. but alas, I do not have the time to do so. This is my spring break so im doing a custom exhaust for my car as well as this diverter, but besides this week i dont have much time in my schedule. (public relations chair, Clemson Sports Car Club; President clemson chapter AIChE; and the biggie.. my major is BioMolecular Chemical Engineering... and its kicking my butt...)

Looks great ! Awesome work. Maybe weld on a feed ramp at the bottom front and then have it powdercoated ?

And spend another 2 bucks and get a nice set of matched diverter bolts.....

well if you can point me in the direction of allen head bolts long enought for the back id be mroe than happy :D haha. The ones at lowes and ace are 5mm too short. :( :/
and no feed ramp needed.
The bottom of the scoop rests gently on the top of the front lip of the diverter already. (i thought about doing that if needed, but it worked out well)

It also kicked my butt 30 years ago (without the biomolecular twist), so its good to see that the more things change - the more they stay the same...

Nice looking work. I take it you have a sheet metal brake? If not, how did you make the precise bends?

Cheers,

I do have access to one... but didn't figure that out rill after the fact (doh!, i did use it on the bent vertical piece that the rubber seal goes on though...)
the sides were cut off using a table sheer (put metal in, line it up.. and jump on the foot lever repeatedly till it sheers off) it was then mig welded (out of gas for tig :( ) and then ground and orbital sanded back smooth for the sides.
