Sounds like there was a design change in the original shifter that prevents the Alta from being installed. What about B&M? My kit is sitting in my garage, i just haven't gotten around to doing the install yet... :???:

BM is looking into this. I have contacted my BM distributor, and let them know about it. I will let you know what i find.

Thanks

I've got the Promini in my Oct build 04. Promini is exactly the same thing as the BM, only difference is the fact that the cheapo aluminium shift **** says Promini on top instead of B&M.

Other than that it works great. Install was a little challenging because I was in constant fear of breaking one of the many plastic pieces but all in all well worth it. Slap a whalen on top and you are good ta go.

The rumor is the Oct build 04's are the old design, and the new design wasn't implemented until nov or dec builds. Thanks for the info though!

I'm in the same position as you doug, except my build date is a couple weeks later. I hope this doesn't cause problems.

Cheers,

JD

haha, looks like we all bought ours awhile ago but were all too busy to install!

So no one with a mid november and later build date has done this mod?

I also bought the kit back in Oct. But I didn't get my car until Jan. (Dec built). So, I guess I'm in the same boat as you guys.

I have a feeling it will not fit.

Well, i just got off the phone with B&M. The tech said the current shifter WILL NOT fit an 04 MINI.
And they are still looking for an 04 car to use to design the new one from the way it sounded. So if you are on the west coast you may want to give them a call.

I will second the comment above. I purchased a Pro Mini shifter before my car arrived (Nov 04 build and delivery). I had read somewhere that the change was made in the middle of November, so I was hoping it would still fit. I went down today and of course...nope. An easy way to check is to pop the trim ring inside and look at the "shifter" box. If it is black plastic, like mine, then then new shift lever won't fit. I ended up taking everything out to make sure. The label on the shifter box has a date. Mine is 10/29/03. Hope this helps.
