Well i've sucessfuly modified the stock airbox and intake tube using various materials from home depot and discount autoparts. But i am thinking about modding the stock header next.

Ok my idea: Remove everything from the 4-1 collector all the way to the cat, buy a new high flow 4-1 collector and weld it in, and then just have an exhaust shop make a downpipe from the collector to the stock exhaust.

The collector will cost about $75 and a stainless steel DP will cost $150.

Do you guys think it would be worth the effort? Or would should i just buy an after market header for $750+? I think my idea would work good with no or very little loss in torque down low with a good amount of gain in the high end. I mean, for only $225-300 plus some time i should be able to get performance results close to what the headers that the aftermarket vendors are selling now.

What should i do?

The only reason why the products cost as much as they do is because of testing. The tuners want to give youthe best product, of the highest quality. All I am going to say is you get what you pay for, but if it works, go ahead and do it.
