Drivetrain Transmission Question
Anything can be done....but it'd be much easier and cheaper to just sell your current MCS and buy a manual MCS.
+2 on responses so far: yes theoretically possible, practically, no go
No doubt possible to just transfer all the parts. Any manual to auto conversion bogs down some on the pedal and shift mechanism conversions, but of course it's all out there as piece parts or in wrecking yards.
The showstopper though on most modern cars will be the ECU, and TCU for an auto trans. if BMW uses a computer specific to the transmission over and above the ECU. This essentially killed these kinds of swaps in the last 20+ years. The computer be specific to the drivetrain, and may be specific to the year. Your chances of programming this to work successfully, and run things as basic as the ignition security chip interface, and w/out a CEL problem, are probably slim to none. If you were a mechanic at a dealer who had been to lots of classes on MINI engine electronics or a tuner at Alta, maybe. Any CEL and it's a no go on smog check. And, who knows if it would pass even a visual if the VIN comes back as an auto, but the tester has to input manual on the machine.
Net, way cheaper to enjoy car you have, or sell and trade for the car with the tranny and other options you really want.
