Drivetrain jcw intake wiring
jcw intake wiring
just bought a used JCW intake for my 2005 MCS. i have installed it and i am currently just running it with the flapper valve open. the used intake came with no wiring harness. i need help figuring out how to wire it up! the factory instructions are useless. i see 1 wire goes to pin 8 on the fuse box, easy enough. 1 wire to pin 113 on ecu easy enough. 1 wire to ground, no problem. the problem is there are only 2 connections at the solenoid on the air box so were do i connect 3 wires?
I removed the flap and all the guts on my JCW intake.
However, I do get a little bit of a whistle sometimes at lower RPMs and low load. The good side is that I hear the great intake noise better, all the time.
The flap is there to reduce noise at lower RPMs.

I figured since it had the wiring & the flapper I'd use them. My needs may be different than others. For me a quiet intake that is only loud when I'm hammering on it was why I bought the JCW. If one wants noise there are cheaper alternatives. The supplied directions worked for me.
Magnum if you want PM me your e mail addy & I'll send you a PDF of the instructions I used.

The difference in sound is not that much to go through the trouble of hooking up the flap . It's just one more thing to go wrong. I went through the whole ECU brain surgery wiring thing then removed everything a year later
I took the time to remove mine...open all the time 24/7!
They call it the John Cooper Motorsport (JCM) mod because then JCM in Sussex, England would prepare the Challenge race series cars without the flap removed. They actually sold these JCM "modified" JCW CAI.

Now that people are done hijacking my thread and having a flap vs no flap arguement, I'll chime in again. I have no wiring harness! That's my problem. The factory instructions assume you have the harness so they do me no good. If nobody can help me make a harness, can i buy one from mini dealer parts department? I saw no seperate part number for the harness.
I will have a look but I am pretty sure I still have the wiring with module all in tact.
Hey
I just got my JCW intake from a friend with the wiring harness. Althou I will use it and i understand why you would want to. Think it is easy to make up the wiring harness. If you want i can make you a drawing of the harness. Then you can just use the normal instructions. But now her is my question. Will it work on a standard S just by hooking up the wires? Or do you need to do the JCW ECU flash?
