Mini Cooper GP Intercooler

I have looked back on numerous threads and cannot find the exact parts that I will need for the GP upgrade. So far I have gathered. I am not sure if the Air Duct is needed on an '06 MCS. Just looking for an exact parts list before I make an order.

17517565302 - Intercooler
17517565345 - Diverter
17517511947 - Rear Support (2 needed)
51134404668 - Air Duct

This part is not rear support 17517511947 for rear support you need 17517565396.

Also instead of oem GP diverter you might consider Way Motor Works/DDM diverter. A lot cheaper too.

So 2 x 17517565396 instead of the 17517511947? Do I need the air duct as well or is that not needed? I was thinking about the ddm diverter any difference? It's the same price as the oem one, but if it's better I'll go for it.

you will also need the screws for the rear brackets.
Here is the part list I gathered from realoem.com
JCW GP Intercooler: 17 51 7 565 302 $382.47
GP IC Cover-plate 17 51 7 565 345 $192.81
Rear support Bracket 17 51 7 565 396 $22.73 ea. (2)
Torx Bolt for Rear Bkt 07 13 0 782 486 $0.53ea. (2)

I just purchased a GP IC and bracket from ebay. I pick it up Saturday. I am also ordering the DDM Diverter instead of the OEM GP Diverter/Cover plate.

So your not using new air duct? Is it the same as the one we have or is it needed?

From what I read the airduct for the intake needs to be trimmed slightly on the bottom of the inside. Just slightly trimmed with an exacto knife like thing. I will look for that thread.

I've tried to find out all the information, but no one seems to have an exact parts needed. Took me 5 to 6 different threads to figure out what parts are needed. A company on ebay is just selling the bracket and the intercooler, but I have seen others buying the air duct. I’m just utterly confused at exactly what is needed.

Just call Way Motor Works. he sells them. He should be able to hook you up with all the parts you need

the intakes are indeed different, at least they have different part numbers:
Cooper S Intake P/N: 51 13 7 123 430
http://realoem.com/bmw/showparts.do?...51&fg=20&hl=12

Cooper JCW GP P/N: 51 13 7 123 430

if you use the OEM diverter for the top of the IC, you need #1. however, just get a DDM GP diverter and it meshes with the hood without that #1 piece. Much better Diverter , too.

Ah perfect, so I just need the following and I’m good? No other parts needed?

(1) JCW GP Intercooler: 17517565302
(2) Rear support Bracket 17517565396
(2) Torx Bolt for Rear Bkt 07130782486
(1) DDM GP Diverter

That is my exact part list. I pick up my GP IC and bracket Saturday morning, and I have ordered my DDM Diverter from WMW. I should have everything installed sometime next week.

Thread Resurrection........
So, if you are going all OEM, is the new air duct needed? It has a diff part #, but seems to be exactly the same as the standard S air duct.

Ok here is the difference.
The rear supports of the duct are slightly modified/ground down on the GP version. Basically they are ground down to be more flush with the hood a bit so as to not touch the rear edge of the IC diverter cover.

Other than that the GP version is identical to the standard S air duct.

And for some bizarre reason the GP version retails for ~$60 with the extra modifications,
and the S version retails for ~$90.

GP vs S IC scoop airduct deltas

Ok, so the S version is on top here. Notice the top edge of the 90deg support plastic strips on either side of the support bracket itself. On the So it is has some sheen to it, as originally molded. On the GP version it has a more matte finish as those supports have been ground down.

On this side profile view you can see the dimensional difference betwwen the thin (i.e. ground down) GP version on the left, and the original (i.e. as molded) S version on the right.

So, if you wanna save some bucks with your GP IC install you could easily modify your existing S airduct to accommodate the larger GP IC and diverter/cover

And yes on the foam. If your foam is no longer springy and making a tight seal then definitely get new. The foam can be Purchased seperately.

If you are planning to use your old S airduct, make sure the read post #17 & 19, and make the mod such that the old air duct will not rub on the new GP IC cover.
