Water pump cavitation, SC rotational max, ECU rejiggering and whatnot aside, what in the core MCS engine block precludes higher RPMs? 10k, say, for a number. Or am I way off base in even thinking about this?

definitely s/c rpm (allegedly reliable up to ~17 or 18k rpm); regardless, at some point you sacrifice charge cooling capacity due to the heat increase generated by increased s/c rpm

valve train, my guess (esp. valve springs)

cam, again speculation

lack of a flux capacitor (which...is...what makes time travel possible)

you'd definately need titanium valve springs and retainers, probably would want any excess metal from castings taken off the internals, have the crank knife-edged, get lightweight sodium-filled valves (does the MINI S come with these already???).......You'd probably want to ditch the eaton S/C setup and either go with a centrifigul blower or exhaust-driven turbo setup.

I believe a lot of what will limit the engine will be the oiling system. Only designed for around say 8,000 rpm. No Oil No More go fast ! The internas probably could be balanced for ? 12,000 but again I think the oiling is the limiting factor.

I can run probably 12,000-14,000 rpm on my old school Vespa 2 stroke scooters but the engines are balanced and blue printed...

Dang, answered my ownself, at least on one point: the lifters would need to be solid vs. hydraulic. Else, engine gurus, at what RPM is hydraulic still OK and why?
