I saw a piture either on this forum or on Mini2 that showed gauges mounted on either side of the tach. Basic bracket with the buckets attched. Does anyone remember seeing it? Been looking but not having any luck. Am I imagining things? Thinking about a boost gauge on one side and oil pressure on the other.

Any help greatly appreciated.

KSMini, I think you are referring to the PROMINI set-up. I just installed it last month, and made some comments about to it over on MINI2. I think this is what you are talking about:

http://www.promini.com/products/gauges.shtml

I had been wanting it for a while, but when they made the boost gauge go up to 30, I wasted little time in getting it...

Try outmotoring.com and see the alta gauge pod for about $165.

Also Piloracing is thinking of carrying something similar for less.

You can make a low cost mount similar to the ProMINI and Alta for about $40. I am in the process of finishing mine this week and will hopefully post pictures later. VDO gauge cups can be purchased at Summit racing for $15 each. A piece of aluminum stock 1" x 8.5" can be used for the mount to the back of the tach, approx $5. Assorted standoffs and screws, another $5. Aluminium, screws and standoffs can be found at Lowes or Home Depot. For those of you with Nav, take the width of the gauges and add 1" on either side. Summit has the matching gauges for about $55 for electric oil pressure and $45 for the mechanical boost. An electrical boost will run about $190+. That is where the cost comes into on the ProMINI setup. I'll have about $150 total wrapped up in mine and it will look great!

I have a Guage mountiing bracket that works for Nav and Non nav cars. I am trying to see if the man who created it will make more. It does the same thing as all the other guage kits but costs allot less.

The main cost of all these guage kits is the guages themselves. an Autometer boost Guage (electrical in 2 1/16 size Part # 4377 runs around 180.00 dollars)

I saw some website offering the Promini set-up but with the mechanical gauge. If I can't find it, take a look at some primarily BMW sellers, and they have a section for the MINI stuff. I'll reply again if I find the site.

I bought the Autometer gauge mentioned by vdubdoug as well as the mounting cup ($20?). I mounted the gauge straight to the upper steering column cover. Very stable, visible, and cost effective IMHO. Here's pics:

I just heard from the service manager at my dealership that the easiest way to tap power is from the cigarette lighter - you get both switched power and dimmable lighting and the wires are easily identifiable and reachable. Good luck!

Cheers,
