Stepped Core FMIC

Is the finishing on this FMIC wrong as I would have thought how it is at the moment would cause a restriction in the air flow. If wrong would I be able to remove the excess material with a dremel?

This is supposed to be from the same people that make the Helix one for them !!!!

I was thinking that but have been told by a track car specialist who knows his stuff that an intercooler should not be like this.

The FMIC looks exactly the same as the Helix item. I was told that Helix gets theirs made for them and this is from that supplier. It could of course be a copy, a poor one at that.

I did think of dremeling it but was told any small bit of metal that could be left in the intercooler could find its way into the engine so not a good idea.

Going to take it up with the seller and see what they say.

That is a horrible inlet/outlet execution with turbulence written all over it, what IC is this? I would send it back, do NOT dremel that or remove the material for obvious reasons.

I asked who made it and was told it was the same people who make the one for Helix. Pictures are lifted off here it seems as is product info but the 2nd pic is the sellers own and you can see it looks identical to the Helix one.

It had rubber caps over the inlet and outlet so did not see until this week when I wanted to fit. Most searching on the net does not show you inside the inlet and outlet so I could not be sure there was anything wrong but simple flow analysis makes me think that these are not right, hence posting on here.

Hopefully this is just a bad one and I can get it swapped. If not I will be sure to warn all those on other forums about the quality of this intercooler.

Umm.....very interesting to see that they are using MY CAR as the one in their photos . My car has the Helix....the real Helix....

I wouldn't trust them at all, I'm sure they just tried to knock off the Helix, and failed miserably at it.

The welds in your photos are so sloppy, the real Helix is perfect. Get them to buy it back and run away.....

I have the Helix and it is a work of art. There is no comparison to what you are showing.

TBH they look exatly the same. If you look inside the inlet and outlet I would not call the Helix a work of art. From the pic you have posted the finishing is not that smooth. Just my opinion. The one I bought would look exactly the same if the inlet and outlet had been profiled better. As it is it looks like an unfinished intercooler.

I saw the Forge Motorsport one yesterday as they wanted by car to test fit some parts which resulted in me getting the parts for free. I could have had their intercooler for a reduced price and fitted free seeing as they had my bumper and standard intercooler off anyway. Shame I need to get my refund sorted first. But looking at the finishing of the inlets and outlets on the Forge item they do seem a lot smoother. Probably down to the difference in construction.

I would also be wary of ANY stepped intercooler on ebay for the mini. A quick search found several of this type with similar crude inlets and outlets so there must be a batch of them out there:

You have the right to contact them and ask them to:
A.) remove the image for use as it's NOT the same product.
B.) and, if you the photographer of the image, you could send an invoice to them for them using an unauthorized image for commerical use.

Hi Tyrolsport; I had one of your UGSMIC's for my 2003 VW Jetta 1.8T - great product.
Could you provide more details on the R55/R56/R57 intercooler you now offer?
The large core surface area is appealing, however the profile behind the grill is something left to be desired.

heres a pic of the newest revision Helix FMIC it has cast(non welded inlets and outlets)the inlet and outlet are smooth then bellmouth into the core with no restriction.these inlets and outlet tubes are also knife edged to reduce restriction it also has rounded bullnose bars on the ambient and charge sides of the core which lower presuure drop on both sides of the core, the ambient face is also 1" taller and has 2 more charge rows! The newest revision is a complete engineered solution to MINI intercooling with features that are not done anywhere else!

Its only a matter of time that successful parts are pirated BUT its also illegal to use tuner intellectual property(the stepped core concept) data/pics and customer pics and verbage directly taken off of our site in an ebay ad. AWE tuning had ssautochrome shut down for violaing their VeRO rights, it looks like we are going to have to follow this path! UPDATE VeRO claim has been sent to ebay!

why would you buy a pirated design for more $ than we sell ours for in a GB? If you send it back we have more of the new revised FMIC coming in the next 7-10 days!

1. Because I did not know it was a pirated design when I bought it.
2. Because there was no longer a Group Buy.
3. Because at £200 it was less $ than you were selling yours for and shipping/tax to the UK would have made yours considerably more expensive, even if there was a group buy on which there is not last time I looked.

Good

I emailed him and told him to not use my photo as I do not support other people's products being represented as their own.

Feel free to use it on your site though
