First Production Unit Shots

Hi All,

Just took some quick mobile phone pics to show what the new IC's will look like before the fins get coated with radiator paint. It's cool to see the copper before it gets its protective coating.

Also, as you can see, the production units have flat mating surfaces for the foam seal built into the plastic diverter on the bonnet.

The IC in those pictures looks different than the one at the beginning of the thread. Did you change the design?

Good eye.

There is only one critical difference between the prototype shown at the beginning of the thread and the production units. Flat sealing surfaces have been added to the endtanks and at the back of the IC core for the foam seal that's affixed to the plastic diverter on the bonnet. This allows for better airflow and a better seal.

Nothing else has changed internally.

Looks good, now how about some testing, with real graphs, dyno runs, and user testomonials?

You'll have hard numbers (in graph form) for comparison. I'll get a new thread started for testimonials on NAM once the pre-sale is added to the DoS site.

DICKS GARAGE R53, I've valued your questions throughout the (too long) development process.

Yes. The protoype was on my car for 10,000mi (including 3 track days) and a production unit has now been on the same car for 2000mi.

Yah.

We have don't want to put the units on sale until we have more complete street & track-worthy data to show. We realize that we're running the risk of losing potential customers by making folks wait. I'm a stickler for perfection.

We machine and build our in-house parts in small batches. I personally build all the CAI's and IC's that we sell (I don't just take parts made abroad and pack them into boxes). The R56 part business has been brisk as of late. Though it pains me to see the R53 A2A-IC release delays, R56 parts are paying the bills right now and filling orders for said parts sucks-up valuable time for R53-IC fun.

All that being said . . . thank you for your antagonistic tone. We'll get you the data that you crave so much.

I wasn't trying to antagonistic. I felt my first 4 words conveyed that.

edit:
The fact I am reading this thread shows I am an interested party

Given the amount of over hype, vapor ware, next greatest thing and all the parts that look good on paper, being sceptical is a healthy attitude to have. I'm also interested in the new intercooler and want to see test numbers. Since I'm already running a highly rated GRS intercooler, the DoS unit will have to significantly better numbers for me to make a change.

Vaporware is a fun word to say, but it doesn't apply here.
I truly & sincerely do appreciate the interest and prodding from the community to get them more info. It helps to keep DoS motivated and to present data that is well organized and easy to digest. Sit tight. I can assure that your wait is justified.

^ not being a DFIC fan, they do work with well with all the extras, but not enough surface with a purpose. Front mount???? Too much plumbing to work out & make work correctly - AND, I want AC, this is a DD ( kind of ). The top mount has a "natural" shelf for ice ( summer use ) & here in NE they love the low ambient temp in the fall & spring. The GRS & Forge work well here = surface with a purpose....

Your IC has the best end tanks I've seen on a production piece. Copper rocks, plus, the frequency of the fins looks to pass a lot of air - this was a factor in my choice for using the Forge.

Can't wait to see how the flow is, presure drop, heat recovery......
