A friend has the Viper in his Cooper, basically the same unit except the S version gets its air from the cowl instead of the front. The other aftermarket intakes for the S, though they do have aluminum or plastic shields, are not completely sealed off from the engine compartment hence the suck a little hot air. I have the Pipercross and have used small foam pieces around the alum shield to block off air from coming in from the engine bay.

I have a newly arrived '04 MCS. My first mod was to be a Pipercross intake, but alas, the '04 MCS bonnetpad has been redesigned and is thicker than the older models, so the intake kit has to be redesigned. I await the new design impatiently...

Also noteworthy is the fact that the thicker bonnetpad has invalidated many manufacturers models of strut tower braces.

Cheers...

I was gonna get the Viper for my '04, but when I called Diamond Racing, they told me that it wouldn't fit with the new bonnet pad. I'm the impatient sort, so I decided to get the Alta. I've been quite happy with it. It's the only performance mod I have so far. The next one will be a Milltek exhaust, then probably a pulley.

As we are waiting for the redone Viper S intake there are competitors that are also nearing completion-

I'd like to see a comparison of the RDR carbon fiber intake with the Viper S.
Helix13 will have the RDR intake and make the announcement soon.
Stay tuned.

I have the madness cold air intake and back plat. They work great together and sounds oh so nice. Very easy to install, and great build quality.

hi all-

heard a response from Diamond Racing... they advised that it is on order so place your orders soon... also the cost has gone up to about $350 or $375.... I may be going with another one... not too sure yet though. $350 is a bit much for intake...

What type of intake do you guys have? any suggestions? What gives the biggest HP gain...

I have used the pipercross viper for the last year after making a few of my own tests feel it is the best available at this time. The air hitting the face of the foam element is exactly ambient temp and I cant see how you can improve on that. match it perhaps but improve on it not at this time.I am definatly interested in what BFP is bringing to market however so perhaps my mind will be changed .

I think, based on the photo's posted, the Viper looks the best. As for HP gain it seems fairly competitive. I would love to have something that looks great and boosts Hp the most. Is the Viper S the one? I guess I will have to test it for myself!
