R56 Stock BOV

Hi guys,

Anyone know where the stock BOV is on the R56? I've tried searching online, but can't seem to find any info on it.

I saw a mention that it's below (or behind) the windshield wiper reserviour. Is that true?

If anyone has pix or instructions on how to remove/replace the stock BOV that'd be great.

thanks.

It's not a BOV. It is a diverter valve.

If you get an aftermarket BOV, the install will be near the noisemaker. This is located in the rear left hand side of the bay. I haven't taken a look as to where the diverter is. I believe it's near the turbo. Check the intercooler pipes. I've been avoiding looking at the turbo because it just makes me want to mod the crap out of everything around it. I'll take a look later, but I'm at work.

Thanks, I was truly stumped on that one!

But really, how hard is it to write, Blow Off Valve?

Thanks. I guess that's the reason I couldn't find anything. It's either referred to as a diverter value or solenoid.

Here's something I got off the Forge Motorsports site:
http://www.forgemotorsport.com/media/FMDVMCS.pdf

It's for the BOV adaptor, but the instructions for replacing the stock solenoid are the same except you're not adding an adaptor but replacing the solenoid altogether.

you guys seem to be misinformed... it's technically a diverter valve that's on the compressor side of the turbo... it's a simple little piece that retracts from a signal from the ecu when you're off throttle recirculating the boosted air from post compressor wheel back to pre compressor side of the turbo effectively keeping more boost in the system and having faster (in theory) boost recovery between shifts.

The Forge VTA BOV (Vent to Atmosphere Blowoff Valve) adaptor takes that recirculating piece and basically spaces it out while at the same time blocking the old path to turbo inlet and instead venting that boost through a coupel hols in the machined bit, effectively making your recirculating valve now a vent to atmosphere bov.

the other option if you don't want electronics to control it, is get the Alta Blockoff plate which will remove the solenoid (but you keep it plugged in and in the car so the car's ECU doesn't think you're messing around or that all of a sudden it doesn't have a bov which would make it kill boost to avoid compressor surge. anyhoo back on track, with the block off plate in place, you can now put a vacuum activated BOV elsewhere, usually in the cold side boost tube. any questions anyone can just PM me, i'll happily answer any questions.

from there there there are multiple types of BOVs, push, pull, electronic, half and half. but like i said PM me for that kinda question...

if you want to see the stock diverter piece when you're car's cold or at least luke warm (you'd be amazed how stupid people can be and try this after a drive to work ors omething) take off your turbo inlet hose and look right behind it between the inlet and the oil filter... you'll see a little black box... i have some pics of all this to help you see what i'm talking about and i'll post that in a minute...

Thanks dunphyj. after I did my research I found out about the divertor valve and how it works. It's exactly how you describe it. I just wasn't sure where it was until I came across the Forge PDF.

Thanks for the pix, very helpful.

Keep in mind that if you have a BOV you can'tuse the diverter valve to stay in boost between shifts if you have been retuned to do so. IMHO the BOV is just a fancy niose maker. Your money is spent better elsewhere.

The BOV is a fancy noise maker. In fact, I have one for sale in the market place

I did replace the diverter thingy with the one that Way sells on his site. To be quite honest, I immediately noticed a difference in how well the car responds when shifting gears. http://www.waymotorworks.com/wmw-per...off-valve.html

You noticed my BOV for sale or Way's replacement? JK!

It really makes a difference. I was pleasantly surprised.

When I talked to Way it had more to do with the JCW turbo and other stuff that I don't remember

For $62 bucks, I figured I couldn't lose out. I spent more on lots of other products that did NOTHING for my MINI.

I read somewhere that if you buy an aftermarket blow off valve, you don't need to block off the stock one on the turbo.

Thank you for resurrecting a long but, dead thread. But to answer your question stick to replacing the diverter valve itself and not buying a true BOV for the MINI because they cause so problems with the ECU. So you want to get the one like what Forge makes, the one that WMW is selling, or the Alta spring.

Haha,sorry! Curiosity is a ****!

I was looking to use my old Greddy Type S valve. Found a "cold side pipe" on eBay that already has a built in flange for it. Not to mention, I have always been a fan of the sound of it.
