2.5 inch vs 3.0 inch exhaust (sound)

i know what you guys are thinking; yes, i know that a 3 inch exhaust system will not make a difference power wise unless im going to end up upgrading my turbo later on. i know that if im not going to upgrade, 2.5 inch should be more than enough.

ok, now that that's out of the way, my main question is how much different does a 2.5 inch system sound compared to a 3.0 inch system? is 3 inch deeper? does it drone more? would i actually lose horsepower with 3 inch compared to 2.5 inch?

soon, im going to be doing a custom magnaflow exhaust system and i just need some help making the choice between 3 inch and 2.5 inch. even if im not making hp, the deep tone is still important to me. personal experiences are welcomed!

It'd definitely be louder, but as far as the tone of the exhaust it should change. It'll just be louder. And you won't lose any power compared to a 2.5 inch system. As far as drone goes, all I can say is i've got a 2.5 inch cat back exhaust with a single magnaflow resonator and it drones at 80

I've been running the Alta 3" cat-bac for 18K and am quite happy with it. No louder than OEM, just a different sound below 3500rpm. Above that, the deep growl turns to a deep howl almost like an old Offy 270. No resonating at any rpm and the increase in bottom end torque is felt right away. All the 2.5" systems I've heard are too loud and sound like they're trying to imitate a Honda V-Tech! Buried deep in NAM's archives there are videos of the various system to listen to. That's how I made my choice. The HP & TQ gains are about the same for all of them. Good Luck!
