Drivetrain Looking for a quietest intake. Dinan?
There are many used JCW intakes around...as long as it still has the flap on the back, it is the quietest...
I have the Dinan....I like it....just enough sound to make you smile, quiet for a longer drive!!
It is elegant, and OEM looking...not blinngly..some love the look, some don't!!
Install is moderately easy, if you can cut plastic!!
They have been on sale recently (and the price is a-lot less than it was a few years ago)....and Dinan is no longer making parts for the r53..so if you want one...I'd buy it fast!!

Yes Dinan is the quietest, aside from JCW. Also JCW and Dinan are the best to combat heat soak, since they are plastic.
Past that anything with a top is the next best bet.
That being said, screw quiet, Loud is the way to go.

I had a Dinan and switched to JCW because my car had pronounced throttle whistle at part throttle (not all cars do). With the JCW it's bliss. Deals can often be found on the JCW intake if you shop around for a while.
Another option is to add a better flowing filter to the stock airbox, and remove the lower grommet from the rear of the box to allow more airflow from the cowl area. Will yield nearly the same results as a Dinan for a fraction of the price.

I've been wanting a JCW intake for some time, but really can't justify the expense. This mod sounds like it might be more up my alley anyway.
Find a used JCW, and then put a new, lifetime filter on it, like, say, here

Alta used to make a foam filter element. I think there is a K&N filter available. There may be others. I'm a big fan of the AMSoil nanofilters because they breathe very well, filter very efficiently, last forever and are dead simple to maintain (blow it out, it's clean). That's what I run in my JCW box - they have a wide range of panel filters, but I haven't tried to find one that fits the stock airbox - they don't list one in the product selector for "Mini" but that doesn't mean they don't have something that will fit - somebody needs to check the dimensions.

I'm not seeing a direct comp from Amsoil; the closest would seem to be the EaA127 @ 9.518" x 7.03" x 1.499"
K&N 33-2270 (comes up as direct replacement on their site) is 6.375" (162mm) x 10.688" (271mm) x 1.063" (27mm)

EAau3570 - it's about 1/4" shorter than the JCW, so you have to use something as a shim to hold it in place or use a clamp to do so - but otherwise it's perfect.
