Yamaha R1 Muffler project.

So I am thinking of getting a complete set of 07' R1 mufflers and putting them on a y-pipe and seeing what it sounds like.

I like the look of the tips on them and think it should sound pretty good with the factory system. If it's too quiet, there is a race pipe kit for the mufflers that makes it sound a lot meatier.

I guess I would have to put some kind of flange join into the rear factory pipe to be able to make it all work.

Am I crazy for doing this??? I have heard some cars with akropovic? mufflers that sounded pretty tough.

Here's a video of an R56 w/ a yoshi exhaust:

I'd imagine your idea would sound very similar...

It doesn't really matter what you put on these cars for a muffler...the turbo does most of the muffling. If you were to try doing this on an R53, I'd imagine it to be insanely obnoxious.

What is the easiest/ most leak free way to join the pipes? If it's loud I will have to change it back to the stock muffler every second weekend when my wife does a 120mile highway trip, so it will need to be changed in about 20 mins.

on my 04 r1, my stock pipes were really quiet. my guess is if you have factory pipes off a 07 it wouldnt be that loud.

it would be good if it was only a little louder than stock, cause I don't know how long I could take changing it for long trips.

I was thinking of putting an electronic cutout, but I think I will try this first.
