Ok, I got a Mini Mania header with no cat for a good deal from someone that had one laying around, and I paired it up with a Helix Exhaust. So I was wondering what advice anyone had to get it a little quieter.

The best combination for an MC is the Mini Mania Header with sport cat ($750) and any Cat-back exhaust.
Yours doesn't have the sport cat (retails $650) which tends to make it much louder and at the same time on dyno tends to yield minimal/zero power gains. Loudness does not equal power gain. You're welcome to dyno it for yourself and check the result.

The Milltek header with sport cat can also work with the MC but the cost is higher at $895 and the power gains are muted compared to a flow through design MCS exhaust.

Could you add in something (resonator or sport cat) to quiet things down? I think so, you might want to consult with a custom exhaust shop or loose the header. I don't think anyone is selling just the sport cat.

I was leaning to getting another header as well. I just wanted to toss this one on and see how it went as it had been sitting on the floor of a shop for years prior to my happening upon the place that had it.

I wonder what it would cost to get a cat put in line and if it would help things out.

For sport cats see the details (200 cell) on the Milltek sports cat-I'm not sure if you can find anything that will work as well for a MINI but not all sport cats are designed equally well. Also I don't know how much it might cost to add a cat to your header vs just getting a new or used Mini Mania header with sport cat (Randy Webb usually suggests that is the best header for the MC for now).

Any dyno results I have seen on headers has told me not to waste my money. They have only shown a couple HP and the tests have not shown me what I look for when comparing things on a dyno.

Hey Doug, he has a Mini (not an S). He may get more out of it than a boosted car.
