Performance Chips/tunning

I searched past posts but most were several years old regarding performance chips. I wondered if there was anything new out there. I looked at the shark site and they promise a lot. Any expeirance out there with any chips that makes a "real" differance. Cost vs gain vs reliability?

So far I have done brake work, pulley, plugs, cold air kit.
Is any of this chip or reprogram stuff worth a look?

Thanks,

JW unfortunatley my middle name is not Carl.. but I am thinking about it

A DYNO TUNE IS THE WAY TO GO.. Down side is nothing to sell down the road, compared to a Uni-chip type tune..
I had a uni-chip and sold it in time to get a dyno tune and was well worth it..

Don't waste your money on the "canned-tunes" as they are a bast guess for your car. Not optimized at all. Try to attend a local tuning party by any of the respected tuners or see if a local shop can do one for you.

Nothing new same old regurgitated stuff.
Yeah Custom Pro-Tune on the Dyno is the way to go.
Most "can tune" vendors jumped off the MINI ship, all of them did not gain much hp, some caused codes and a few even lost horsepower.

Call RMW, ask for Jan. He will set you straight with a custom tune mailed right to your door, in a pretty nifty little computer.

That would be a custom remote tune from RMW.

I would do this if you could not get a custom dyno tune from RMW in person.

what's a price estimate for a remote tune mailed to your door? compared to a dyno tune in person?

It would be best to call RMW to get some real numbers. Also, dyno time can vary in price significantly, I have seen $100, all the way to $200 per hour for dyno time.

Yes a custom dyno tune is best. The shark injector and similar flash chips don't work well, they add too much timing and do nothing with the fuel.

But not ALL canned tunes are bad. We wrote our own Quicktune that is great for someone just wanting to make it a little better, but not wanting to spend time on dyno's and wants to continue modding without fear of damaging an engine. We also discount our dyno tune later if you got a quicktune previously.
