question/problem with os giken.. help

i have my install both giken clutch and LSD.. is the LSD suppose to be quiet. i hear alot of mechanical noise when I go forward and louder when I turn..
when going forward it sound like a tractor speeding up.

I was told that giken was suppose to be quiet, unlike quaife or cusoco.?

I just want to make sure it is operating fine before I hit thunderhill in 3 weeks.

Gikens are clutch type LSDs - they do make noise. Quaife does not make noise because of it helical design (no clutches that slip).

Did you follow the break-in procedures exactly?

Most clutch-type LSD req a breakin, looking at the OS Giken site they claim no breakin is req'd. This is news to me and good news for the OP.

Mine makes noise only when making a turn from a dead stop, like when you pull out of a parking lot. It's especially noticeable when cold. Turning off the DSC seems to help. DSC ruins the fun of your purchase anyhow.

Someone told me to preload and punch it going through turns, and this definitely helps! :D

They make a Very small amount of noise pulling away and turning in parking lots and such. thats the nature of a clutch type. But they are significantly quieter then other clutch types. The noise your describing sounds more like you've got an issue. Everything spun fine while doing the install? Did you replace the bearings and the races?

From: Camano Island, WA, but wish was still Oahu, Hawaii
Not exactly the same, but since talking about these clutches. I noticed today that while sitting still with the clutch depressed, there is what sounds like a scraping sound, where with the clutch out (in neutral) it goes away.

The "clunking" noise I had when 1st had the clutch/flywheel has gone away now that I have replaced the upper motor mount.
