His/Hers "shifter" for intercooler sprayer

I was thinking that by putting a valve in the plumbing for your sprayer, you can still use the old lines for the rear washer. Just switch it for the winter to the window washer (when you probably don't need any power boost) , then for summer set it for the intercooler (when you don't need it for the washer.)

Anyone do that before?

HUH??

What type of Mini do you have that does NOT req a rear window "cleaning" during the summer ?? How will you access this "valve". Give up~~do it right get a dedicated system for your "sprayer " Talk with Chance or Jenna at "Devils Own"~~it IS the only "right way". OBEY

I never use my rear spray except for road spray during the winter, as a matter of fact, I don't remember it being all that dirty during the summer, certainly not so much dirtier than the rest of the car like when there is salt on the road melting snow. Around the northeast here, you can't go 10 miles during those days without painting the back with road grime.

The only way the window gets dirty other times is maybe spring when the tree pollen gets bad, but then it is time to wash the car since it isn't just the back window that you can't see out of.

The valve can be under the hood so you get to it easily once a year. I probably won't every do it, but I know there are many here who use the rear wiper as their sprayer and thought this might be good for those who do and live in an area that has bad salt spray. This way they can still see out the back in the winter.

This is based on my hatchback experience since my wife is the only mini driver ATM, but I have many miles in a hatchback and that's how I remember things.

It will work, I have done it. Just go to Home Depot and get a 3-way turn valve. It'd be even cooler if you got an electronic turn valve, then you could do it whenever you need to from inside the car with a switch!

Yup should work fine. I have set that up on several cars. However I ussually replace the OEM tank with a larger one.

Correct. You can use the washer tank to supply your water/meth injection and misting system.

I think he's asking if you are spraying the actual washer fluid onto the intercooler, not just using the washer fluid tank with water in it.

Ahh yes you can just spray washer fluid directly or fill with just water if you would like. The generic washer fluid is just water/alcohol mix with just a tad of coloring. It will also out perform water alone. Nothing that should cause any issues if setup properly.

This is correct, you can read the label and make sure there are no additives for removing bugs or cleaning since a few seem to add more things (and cost more), but most are just meth/water and blue coloring. Just what you need for some heat disappation. Extreme cold winter formula should be highest meth ratio and therefore the best.

Spraying water on the intercooler is a bad idea IMO. Most water will evaporate but where is the rest of it going to go??

Oh and spraying water on the intercooler is not "meth" injection.

Hrm spraying on the intercooler is a bad Idea????? I am not sure where you got that information from but its untrue. You dont stream the water at it but its more of a high power mist. You are correct about the meth injection part. However usually the two are on the same type of system. Some systems mist the ic and the intake and other just do one or the other. Both will help in lowering your IATs. They both also need to be a controlled spray. To much is bad and too little wont do anything.

As far as where the extra water is going to go isnt really that big of a deal. Done properly you should only have a drip or two come off the IC. Your not trying to soak it. You would be just trying to get enough on the IC to cause evaporation to occur. Evaporation will cool the IC faster then just tossing an over abundant amount of water/alky at it.

thats not what they were saying. They meant that people have tapped the windshield washer reservoir to use as the tank for a water mist injection system instead of adding another tank to the engine bay or trunk.

Also, think about this. When you drive the car in the rain where does the water go that comes in through the scoop? It just drips on the intake manifold runners and down the front of the engine bay. No biggy

The very best I think would expand upon this idea and also disconnect the power to the rear wiper with the same switch.
