Drivetrain Here is why you should clean your MINI with Seafoam.
I purchased the spray can yesterday.
removed the hose from the PCV valve while it was at idle.
no problem with trying to die.
I sprayed almost a half a can into the rubber hose, without pinching it.
it never once even bogged down,
I let it sit about 30 minutes with the engine off, and then did the high RPM + drive around thing. (no smoke ever)
did I do something wrong? or was that 2000 miles I drove last week using 91 to 93 octane gas enough to clean it out?

Aren't you normally suppose to use 91 or 93 octane gas? I don't think I've ever used anything under 93 octane.
You can drive it to a Auto part store and have them clear the code for you. I think there is a way you can access the computer in the MINI. But you'd have to dig pretty deep in the forums to find it.
[quote=MrCooperS;3082717]How many miles are on your car? Everything you did sounds right to me. Unless you have carbon build up that's being very stubborn and won't rev out, I'm not sure what the problem is.

It's a 2003 with 88,000 mile (had 86,000 two weeks ago when I purchased it)
I doubt the prior owner would have used seafoam. I talked to him on the phone and he didn't seem like the type. but the car lot could have done something to make it run better for test driving.
I personally think it runs great, no idle problem at all, only thing I notice is a delay when starting. I always think it's not going to start, then it does.

Mine smoked like a chimney @65k..I think it depends really. Check your exhaust tips for soot, that's an easy indicator of carbon buildup.

It's possible. Something's going on with mine right now. Code comes up saying cylinder misfire but if it's that I don't feel the cylinder misfiring. Possible plug issues is what I'm thinking. Cars performance is good though. Just the service lights on. :(
max driving mileage while sea foam in crankcase
I changed my oil and added the recommended 1.5 oz per qt to the crankcase. I know that the oil should be changed when it gets dirty, as per the instructions, but I figured 5000-7000 miles. Wrong. Buried on their web site I read that the max mileage is 3000 miles. Just bought a new filter & 5 gal mobile 1 5-30 and I'm going to get a max of 3000 mi out of it. Oh well. At least the engine should be clean. Oh, I noticed that my gas mileage went from 28-30 mpg to 34 mpg while it was (still is) in the crankcase. I've only driven a few miles, so I really don't have a lot of mileage with it to confirm. If only I could keep it in there forever and get that 20% better gas mileage. Here's the link to the max 3000 miles statement; it's listed under:USING IN CRANKCASE.

Yeah, I heard the same. I wouldn't wanna leave that stuff in there too long.
you ever think that the smoke you get is just from the seafoam not actually carbon gettin cleaned out?? i dunno sounds kinda to good to be true if it cleans out all your carbon build up.....and why should these cars have so much crap in the motors....you are supposed to run hight test and synthetic oil in them...
Haha, awesome. My fiancee lives in Brookline. The garage on the intersection of Cyprus and Rice St (coincidentally) has two of the funniest rice rockets I have ever seen.
If I see you I'll give you the two hander, you won't be able to miss me

Here's a nail in the coffin for you people that think Seafoam might cause the smoke. I put half a can through my engine and got no smoke. Also Seafoam has been being used for a LONG time, and is known to work. by Long i mean something like 50 years.
The smoke thing - sometimes yes, sometimes no... even with heavy mileage. That does NOT mean it hasen't worked or isn't working, app dependant.
