I'm getting some work done on my MCS soon for some warranty issues. They need to drop the trans. While they were in there, I asked if they would install a Quaife LSD. The answer was yes. This got me to thinking, if they are already performing all of this other work, why not install a lightened flywheel as well? This brings up some other questions too. Such as, if I get a new FW should I get an aftermarket clutch because of the dual mass issue of the OE flywheel? Or, Does someone make an aftermarket lightened flywheel that retains the dual mass aspect? I see that Madness has a flywheel that they state can be used with either the stock or aftermarket clutch discs, does anyone know if this is a dual mass unit? Would there be any problems doing this? Like I said, Would I just be better off getting a replacement clutch too? I did a search on the subject and there was some really good info. However, most of the threads are fairly old and there is no new info in them. I know that Randy is doing some testing, but i'm not sure where he is in the process. jlm may also be of assistence. Any help would be greatly appreciated though.

Because of the high labor costs to install the Quaife LSD, the addition of a lightweight flywheel makes perfect sense (just be expecting more noise). Check with the vendor you are buying the product from about whether you will need to change the clutch-but I don't think so. Why not just use the stock clutch. I think I have seen some options for clutch upgrades but it will cost you. Talk to Randy Webb and see what others have been racing with in MINIs.

Thanks, I figured it would be best to post on all three boards as some people don't frequent all of them.
