Agreed. Which is why, personally, expensive name brands aren't worth the price. Can't justify that much money for a sound.

exhaust

so you guys think even with the 800-1000$ system you would still get the same performance as this exhaust system for $239?....2-5hp gains... i found this one on moss mini that says 13hp gain. what does everyone think about that? http://www.mossmotors.com/graphics/p...ns/101-632.jpg

An exhaust by itself presents a nominal gain. This six-part article shows a loss of about 2 ft/lb TQ and a gain of 2 HP on a stock MINI: http://www.europeancarweb.com/projec...ect/index.html. It is my belief that, when combined with a CAI, pulley, and tune, the gains are higher.

The other thing gained is a weight savings. The stock exhaust is really heavy; you probably will lose 40 lbs or more. That means faster acceleration (perhaps not much, but every bit counts).

I wonder how much trouble it would be to install on a 05' convertible? if at all possible

If the exhaust for the drop top as the standard "S" = should be no problem. The hangers were changed for the 06. Out on a limb, I'd say you're good to go

Well i bought one

Not happy, figured on a quick install, But no, here is the few major issues

Rear part hit rear of battery box, had to cut weld slid pipe out , hangers to long, and flanges were off, Had to cut tips off and buy new 8 inch long dual wall tips, The tips were to short, bumper was 2 inches further back, But it is a Aero bumper

Waste of time , pay the extra 200 buck and get the invida

I dont believe this will fit an R52.

I am sorta having my doubts this will fit an 05 Convertible....there is no crimp in the aft section before the split. The crimp has to be there to clear a section of frame only the convertibles have to stiffen the chasis.

As in this JCW System. All JCW Systems manufactured after 03 have this crimp specifically for the convertible. They avoided having to manufacture two different systems that way.

ex·haust·ing exhaust

Uh i think this is my 5th to 6th exhaust,

And i am thinking the first was the best, I did a Webb 17% pulley then a obx header, Woke the car up! Then i did the One ball mod, Lil louder but nice sound,

Then a Zommers system, WAY to loud hated it, Advertised as a stainless system, Just the muffler was, $600 bucks wasted

So i cut there muffler out, Used a smooth trasition cone and a moroso spirial flow muffler, really liked the sound until a track day, Got a really odd Exhaust noise that seemed to change alot, Got home, the spiral flow auger baffles broke loose and were rattling around, $70 bucks wasted

So i cut thst one out, Put a areo turbine in its place, Still Way to loud,
$75.. wasted ebay item

Now this Tsudo, Quite, liveable, but back of the hatch was really pretty after a track day, Lil fiber glass sparkles all over the car,
250.00 maybe wasted

I could had bought a high dollar system by now!

ex·haust·ing ! really close to cutting out the battery box!

Sorry to hear that you had some much trouble. Everything cleared for me pretty easy. The one thing I did notice is that the two tips don't align in length where they poke out the back. One is .25" longer then the other.

I run a professional shop...I bet I have 4 hours into making this pile of sh*t fit and it doesnt. The "s" bend in the pipe leading to the tip is just not even close to correct, the ".25" importfreak is talking about is closer to an inch and it is because a 3 year old bent the pipe. I ran it by the exhaust shop we sublet to and they had no more luck than I did. To properly fit it you would really want to cut the pipe and rebend it. The hangers are also not close to where they need to be.

Yes, it was cheap...if anyone wants it they can have it for $225 shipped.

And if anyone thinks this is quiet then I would HATE to hear loud.

If you have a LOAD of time to make this fit right then more power to you but I am just going to buy a higher quality one and hope and pray it a) fits right and b) is not so loud.

Again, $225 OBO shipped to your door anywhere in the US, has 80 miles or so on it.

LOL Mine was on the car in under half an hour. Looks like I got lucky. But I would hate to see it on a DD, Mine is already looking iffy in some places that hold heat.

Man, sounds like these guys make them by hand and can't follow a template correctly. Me and my dad had it on in about 2 hours in my garage. It was harder to get the old one off then put the new one one. I don't think my gap was due to a incorrect bend either. I think it is due to how I have the hangers setup.

As far as the sound, I don't think it is loud at all. It is quieter than my friends stock SRT-4. IDK...sorry you had a bad experience.

Great sound! Thanks for the post Plasticknives. As someone interested in getting into some DIY aftermarket upgrades myself, posts like these are extremely helpful. I can't believe how good it sounds for the price!

Being manufactured and/or assembled in an Asian country does not neccessarily mean that it is an inferior product. I have heard only good things about the Stratmosphere systems.

I bought one for our EVO X and found that Tsudo is hit or miss from a quality control perspective. Welds were beautiful but found metal protruding where the pipes were joined. Second one was better.

Can't speak to loudness comparison but I ran the OBX for years and loved it and the only issue for me was the cheap clamps which I replaced day one.

I was opting for this system but considering it is hit or miss I think I will opt for the Invidia - just not crazy about the blued-tip-slash-cut tips...I think they are neat but I would prefer to have a chrome tail-pipe, like stock, only larger in diameter.

Considering exhaust HP/TQ gains are minimal, I really want a good fit/finnish and sound quality. Something somewhat louder/deeper than stock. A throaty grumble that really pronounces the burble. Considering mine is an 04, it lacks in the burble department. So, you said the Tsudo added more burble you say?

Thanks for the write-up; very informative.

The invidia is notches above the Tsudo. When I was active on this board, I can't recall one person running the Invidia with any issues or regrets.

I totally agree. The blued titanium tips is one of the many things I like about the Invidia exhaust. It has a good, sporty tone (and so should the Tsudo for that matter). My mechanic friend has been working on cars for over ten years, and he's never had an exhaust install so easy. He did perform a slight shift of the hangers for the two muffler sections.

As for the burble... all MINIs have it to some extent. When the '05 model came out (and also for '06), in addition to the teflon-coated supercharger rotors becoming stock, and the programming getting a slight update to 168 HP, a defined burble was integrated to occur when you let your foot off the accelerator. This was done to give the impression MINIs had more muscle. The Invidia exhaust greatly amplifies this effect.

P.S. - One other factor in sound quality is weather. I've always noticed a more defined exhaust tone when it's very humid or raining outside.
