The best way to avoid this CEL is to get the ALTA AccessPORT.

Will this mask of the cel pass inspection in states that DO NOT have the sniff test? I love the catless downpipe but removing it every year for inspection is a pain.

Doesn't OBX sell a catless downpipe and midsection for about $250? I haven't heard of anyone on here using it, I wonder how well it's made.

OBX has a catless downpipe and midsection for 150 on ebay. As far as I'm concerned a pipe is a pipe, and as long as it's stainless steel and the diameter is sufficient for good flow, I cant see anything wrong with it

I like how it got chimmed in for the access prot from alta. The only problem with that is the 899$ cost of getting this :P
May as well buy a turbo upgrade for a few hundred dollars more and make more hp

Except you're going to need the AccessPort anyway when you get the turbo upgrade...in addition to paying for custom tuning and mapping

As far as everyone knows, the AccessPort is the ONLY way to definitively eliminate a CEL from an aftermarket downpipe, some people have tried spacers and the Riss Racing CEL eliminator, but they have all had dissapointing results

Milltek CatBack Exhaust

Here is my experience with the Milltek CatBack exhaust as I tried to install it between the holidays.

Aligning all the pieces took some doing but I was successful from the Downpipe all the way aft of the crossbrace, but there is when it all went downhill (hell in a handbasket). The pipe coming out of the muffler(headed forward toward the Resonator) is angled to one side and not just angled down and forward. This throws off the muffler placement as well as the pipe between the Resonator and the muffler. My Distributor is "Looking into it". I strongly suspect a manufacturing error and when you see the photos you will probably agree.

No CEL experienced and the sound is mellow and not tinny.

http://www.mini4fun.info/2011_Millte...ek_Photos.html

Milltek (Stratmosphere) will not take returns on their products and Way Motor Works won't take it back either. Had I known how close the pipes are to the gas tank heat shield I never would have bought the product. Crappy customer support. The explanations were things like, "You have to bend the hangers to make it fit (bent a lot) and"They all run close to the gas tank shields, that is normal". Bunk!! Way Motor Works NOW makes their own product that runs right down the middle of the tunnel. Don't buy a Milltek!!

I am going to have to have the system's pipes cut and repositioned/welded back onto the muffler to get the pipes to run straight and true. Naturally at my expense and voiding the warranty. Warranty is no big deal since they don't take returns anyway!!!

S.

I purchased the Alta Turbo back. They promised me no CEL! Well it took about 8months, then the CEL came on. Believe it or not MINI installed a new O2 & fuel pump under warranty or me. But the light still came back. I called Alta, they sent me 2 O2 spacers. With both installed the CEL takes longer to come back, but it them put up another code that it was running to lean.

Right now, I have one spacer on, & a CEL. I'm pretty pissed about it after spending almost $4000 on Alta parts. Not to sure I want to invest another $800 on the Access port to cure a problem that was promised would not happen in the first place.

Very nice DP, but will cause a CEL.

The best downpipe in the market

Akrapovic
The quality of that downpipe is simply stunning.
No cels, just pure racing sound and the guarantee of a serious company.
That is why it is so expensive, but it is worth every penny!
Further details you can read at their website.

http://www.akrapovic.com/car-exhaust/10-reasons-why/

I have the dp in my car and it is sweet...
They produce also the carbon fiber tips for the back box which are to die for!

I didn't see a downpipe on their website. Do any MINI vendors carry it?

They make great stuff but you pay for it! They have a Porsche exhaust system that is over $8000.

I bet this system for the MINI is well over $3000.

It is in fact over 2400€ so you are right.

They specialize in manufacturing of titanium tubing. That is why some exhaust systems are ridiculously expensive. Like 8000€ for a complete M3 titanium exhaust.

It pays off though...

How does AP eliminate CEL? I have CEL and have accessport. The only way is clearing code and resetting ecu. Then the CEL eventually comes back. My current setup is the Riss Racing catless downpipe and HKS exhaust.

jsyang15, do you know the specific code that you are getting? Maybe it's not an emissions related code that you are getting. All of our newest maps are programmed to eliminate a CEL with a DP.

OK, you were getting the knock code, I believe I emailed you yesterday. Which map are you running and when did you load the map that you are currently running?

I had my car tuned by c2motoraports in Louisville ky. They managed to get rid of the cel. I've been driving for two weeks and nothing has popped up.

I got a Evolve ECU tune, they also remove the CEL and you get a ODBII reader out of it. Very easy DIY.
