15% pulley and throttle response

I am considering a 15% pulley and wanted some input from those that have one. Did it help at all with the throttle response from a dead stop? The delay/bogging down is annoying (especially with th A/C on). Would a Sprint Booster be a better choice for solving this problem? Thanks for any responses.

It certainly helped low-end power. But I couldnt say that for me I noticed a significant throttle response change.

Yep, a reduced diameter pulley means that the SC produces boost at lower engine RPMs. A good tune from someone like RMW will also improve the torque curve which helps starting from a dead stop. No experience with the Sprint Booster.

I have a 17%....the AC bog is 100% gone!!
I was going to get a 15%, but my local MINI guy told be the lag would be still there with a 15%, but would be gone with a 17%....he was right from what I have been told by the other club members.

The sprint booster may help a little. But we really prefer doing it with our custom ECU maps we offer. Our quicktune has been great for improving throttle responce and drivability without you spending a bunch on dyno time, and keeping the car super safe.

The 15% pully is a great mod but doesn't help the dead stop throttle responce much. I got a GIAC tune after the pully and it helped a bit. If all you really want to fix is the dead stop throttle response, then the sprint booster is a quick fix for this.

Don't forget about lighter wheels. Made the switch to SSR's before getting the pulley. Lost the lag with wheels only. Adding the pulley was just more of a good thing.

Stay away from the Sprint Booster. That's a can of worms. 15% pulley and a tune is the way to go.

P.S. Don't bother with aftermarket wires or coil; you're wasting your money on them. However, upgrading to NGK BKR7 plugs will help a bit, as they are designed slightly colder than stock.

I humbly apologize for my reply on the Sprint Booster. I have been getting this mixed up with the Plasma Booster.

The best way to prevent the A/C bogging you down, turn it off. It's can't be that hot. I never use my A/C unless theres someone like my grandma in the car or something. Turning it off will also slighty decrease engine temp.

see agarwaen.. you live in az.. yes it gets hot in az i realize that... but you haven't experienced a south Carolina/Georgia summer. you can have the windows down going 70 on the interstate some days and still be sweatin bullets. In az, yall have dry heat. Here, we have 95+degree heat WITH 90+% humidity. with that much humidity, sweat doesn't evaporate, and your body's primary cooling mechanism doesn't work. we continually sweat as humans to give off heat. AC works not only by cooling the air, but also by de-humidifying it, allowing the moisture on your skin to evaporate and take heat with it. this is also why if you blast your windshield with the ac not on, it often gets worse, whereas it works much better when you have the ac turned on.

As well you should. The Basma Plooster did even less than the sprint booster. Do as Way said and get a tune with more aggressive throttle potentiometer mapping.

I've read alot of great things about the Sprint Booster. I hardly ever use the Sport mode on my "S" because I find it very jerky for everyday use. I'm concerned that the Sprint Booster will be jerky as well. I appreciate the added get up and go, but as soon as you take your foot off the pedal, it's like the bottom drops out and you've downshifted two gears.

Can you clarify or confirm this for me?

Thanks!!!

I actually live in Arkansas. And mid April this year it was touching on 95 with 90+% humidity. I would trade this heat for 120s with 0 humidity. I think it feels good.

I must admit, I like the heat.

I figured it should be hot and sticky there.

In NH, we have just a few (3 - 4) weeks of very hot/humid in a typical year.

I miss the dry heat in AZ. It was hot in Phoenix but your sweat disappeared fast!

Tune

I have all the parts to upgrade my 05 MCS (15% pulley, Borla exhaust, CAI), but I am wondering how much difference a "quick tune" from WMW or places like that actually makes?

$400 seems like a lot for a simple ECU reprogram... or am I missing something?

It seems $$, but I bet if you saw the licensening fees for the software, you might call it a good deal!! Back in the early days of gen1 tuning there were threads about the efforts it took to crack the CPU in the mini, and the 3 layers of encryption....some $$$ money and time, with some pretty expensive hardware were used. IMO from what I have seen, bang for the buck it can be a good deal...compared to other ways to get the same results.

Does anyone have any documented results of the quick tune from WMW? Ot seat of the pants impressions?
