Drivetrain How can I go faster
How can I go faster
Looking at new mods without spending too much. Dont want to go the cam route as then ill need to spend on bigger injectors too and possibly a head.
What can be done instead? Have a pulley, catback, header, alta panel filter.

How can you make an omlette without an egg?
welcome to the world of making your car faster AND having to spend some money to do it
there is no shortcut to doing it
something else will be available......................................... .............very................................. ...soon........................................... ..........................
correct, it's going to take some $$$ now to go faster. The head is the most important part of the setup. Spend your money very wisely now..........there is plenty of data out there to see through marketing fluff. You truly get what you pay for here. This and the cam is the one part you do NOT want to skimp on. We are talking 30+hp differences here

Great Article in Sport Compact Car a number of years ago about someone who wrote in had a Sentra Automatic and wanted to make it faster without spending any money. It had big wheels and a Body kit. So Sport Compact started working on it. I think the baseline 1/4 mile time was a 17 second run. I just tried finding the article on the web and couldn't find it but basically they take it back to stock and it gets faster then they start removing pieces. Eventually it ends up as just an engine, transmission, front tires and a driver seat dragging the rear on spare tires and IIRC they got it pretty fast (like low 12's high 11's.) with no money spent.... So pull out your sawzaw.
Aww. Found the article. My times were off but this is what they ended up with...
Curb Weight:1,674 lbs
1/4 Mile:14.3 @ 93.2 mph
60-foot:2.6 sec.
0-60 mph:5.8 sec.

Could it be a???????????????? Or does it come in an aerosol can??

That story about the Sentra is great.
Faster where? Track? Street? Maybe some suspension work would help you hold your speed in the corners and shave seconds. Some suspension stuff is cheaper than a head and cam. Had any (high performance) driver training courses? Besides being fun, I'd imagine that you could learn a thing or two.
How can I go faster?
I hear you loud and clear but that's the only way to make proven hp

I personally enjoy driving downhill with the wind at my back...OH, AND STICKERS!
You could do the 380cc injectors without adding anything else. You would probably need another tune though. Cam and headers could come later down the road to truly utilize the injectors as well.
I tend to agree with nabeshin though, try some suspension mods to stiffen up the body and then you will find a new love. You shouldn't be building a straight-line muscle car with 4 cylinder to start.
Plan out your ultimate goal, figure out what parts you need to get there, then just budget a timeline and don't waste your money on stuff to keep you busy in between.
The winner is

OP, if you have the sport suspension a 19mm rear bar is the iceing on the cake. Engine wise you really need to start with a head. It's always been the head first.
OP -- it really comes down to where you want your speed (cornering, straight line etc). As RMW stated, there is no magic here, you buy the right parts (which can and will cost) and you'll get results. Planning is key though, you can probably find a way to get 5-10 more hp without doing much, but the difference there is equivalent to driving with or without a 200lb passenger.
you could throw 300lbs in weights in your trunk for a week, remove it and you'll feel a decent kick :-)

Relax...
Spend $200 and go to a DE event...
Sort your suspension and brakes first, and then go for the power.
Everyone is always quoting power numbers. No need for that.
Relax.
You drive a MINI. The entire world knows you have a **** the size of the Eiffel Tower.
Here's a $1000 mod plan for you:
Alignment: $100
DE Event: $200
Rear swaybar:$200 max - stay at 19mm
Carbotech pads: $300
2nd DE event: $200
After this you'll be able to attack corners. Any fool in a Mustang can go fast in a straight line.
Stage 2:
Trackday
Camber plates
Trackday
Big brake kit
Trackday
Carbotech track pads
Trackday
Brake ducts
Trackday
Coilovers
Trackday
Larger rear swaybar -22mm max
Trackday
LSD
Trackday
Swaybar links
Trackday
Start thinking about power mods.
That's my 2c

No offense but some of you guys are treating this guy like he bought a 1L superbike as his first motorcycle. If you don't plan on tracking your car but want more uumph there is no reason he should not be able to buy power adders before going to some DE class. There are so many vehicles that are much faster and have less handling ability from the factory. Track days are not for everyone and not everyone wants to spend the money on entry fees and consumables (tires, fluids, etc). But, accelerating onto the freeway or having some more power on a back road jaunt can be appreciated at anytime.

I'm just trying to make him a better driver.
In the long run this works out cheaper too.
I've blown too much money on "power" mods over the years.
It took me a long time and many thousands of wasted $ to realize a very simple fact of life: If you want to go consistently faster and be safer while doing so, you work on yourself first and foremost...then you work on getting your car to corner quickly- 'cause that's where you lose all the guys in their fast&heavy cars...and then, when you know how to exit a corner you work on power.
And if you work on yourself there's an added bonus: When you sell your car and get a new one...you take most of your mods with you

I get where you're coming from. And you're right. Sorry for being overly patronizing.
