Drivetrain Help with mod plan
Help with mod plan
Hey guys, I'm trying to figure out the best plan of action to take for my mod plan. I have currently done an Alta exhaust, CAI, pulley, rear sway bar, plugs/wires.
The things I have on my mind are: coil overs, brakes, headers, catalytic converter, injectors, lightweight flywheel, camshaft, IC (though I here the stock is pretty solid), and of course a tune. This is my list of things that each come with hefty price tags. Because of this I obviously can't buy them all at once and I was wondering if someone would be willing to give me some insight regarding which ones I should do in what order. I am not necessarily using the car on the track at the moment, though hopefully in the future. I would be looking at 6 months or so between any of the purchases over a grand, which is most of them. I have a 2004 MCS. Thanks so much!

You've already done the basics, so the next step would be a tune. However, most say get all the mods before doing so. The cam could be done next, and you would probably want to get the tune done simultaneously. You may also need larger injectors. The JCWs are 380cc, and there are also options for 440cc and 550cc. Your tuner should know what to recommend. Many like RMW's cam. Should you want to do future mods, you can also opt to buy the tuner. That way, you can send off datalogs to the tuner, and he can send you a new tune file to upload.
You are correct. The stock intercooler is very good because it cools as quickly as it heatsoaks. The best alternative is the GP intercooler. You can get one from several European companies; just ask around. Reference this thread for some testing of five intercoolers (including stock): https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...ing-tests.html.
As for the flywheel, reference this post I made in another thread: https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...356-post2.html. It won't give you HP, but it will at least help the engine spin up faster.
