Check Engine Light, code 08343 and P0130

My check engine has been on for a while.

First it threw a P2097 code - Post Catalytic fuel trim sensor, too rich bank 1.

I had both oxygen sensors replaced (Bosch)

That did not clear the code. My tech did another scan and it registered a code 08343 and P 0130 oxygen sensor fail bank 1.

The tech's Snapon reader could not clear the codes.

Both sensors are working and show a voltage differential .05 to .09

What do you think is the likely cause of the codes and their refusal to clear?

I have a stock factory cat after an OBX header, 440's Jantune. Never a problem in the past. 73000 miles. Might cat be bad?

You had the O2s changed, clear the codes? Then new codes came back? Snapon won't clear codes now? Is this the timeline? Does this snapon have the ability to read proprity BMW codes - might not be important BUT it won't clear the codes now, you might try a differet scanner.

I've got the P2096 code. We found an exhaust leak, fixed it then threw the code again. After doing some research, it seems that my code will not clear until the adaptives have either been erased (special dealer tool) or overwritten over time. Some with my code said it went away after a few hundred miles once the problem was fixed. Perhaps your code has adaptives as well that need to be erased or overwritten.

Once the PIDs are cleared, they're cleared - it might take some time for the sensor monitors to complete. The scanner may need to read propritory BMW OBD to clear the codes - my scanner will - as the car I own is listed in the device software.

Thanks for your thoughts. I'll just have to wait to see if the adaptives will clear. I can reset them - somewhere I recall writing down the procedure.

Car runs fine though, but lousy economy. About 21 mpg.

That's good news. It can take as long as a few 100 miles for all the monitors to complete
