Drivetrain Burning Smell After Hard Acceleration
Nah, you can smell it in your own car. These cars run hotter with the supercharger, therefore it's healthier for them to run richer so as not to burn up the piston rings etc., at least from the manufacturer's point because ultimately they have to fix the car if it breaks. Once you decide to mod the car, then you can make the decision to tune it to your liking. But that burnt smell after hard acceleration is not uncommon and is normal.
Agreed
i can say i have had the same problem when cruising at higher speeds seeming like the car struggles ? but can go much faster. to be honest im not to sure. i have had a garage put the wrong oil in but it may still be working that off i dont know. i really wanna go with this carbon thing though. would make sense as i rarely travel fast and use my car irregularly and in many different situations.
does this mean that i should ignore it for a while and eventually it will burn off?
thankyou
i have an 05 mini cooper R50 with a custom magnaflow exhaust 40,000 miles
please help

i can agree with this thankyou
I get this smell too but only when (and every time) we go to our weekend place in the Blue Ridge Mountains, which involves a relatively steep hill climb with switchbacks for about 6-8 miles.
Yeah I used to wonder what that smell was after a hard drive, but it's just the car running rich. Running rich means that not all the gas was burned off in the engine and it goes through the exhaust (something along those lines). I think that's what gives the burble that the Mini has. =O
Post Revival: I found this while searching for a problem of burning rubber smell under acceleration with a vibration too. The smell could be a symptom of the rubber dampened crank pulley beginning to separate. Mine is going to be replaced with an ATI Dampened crank pulley and will post information about the condition of the stock crank pulley that will be taken off.
My understanding is that the stock crank pulleys will deteriorate as the rubber inside breaks down under heavy load. that is where the rubber smell is coming from and you may also experience a vibration, mine is most obvious around 2000 to 2800 rpm.

Oh yeah, they come apart eventually. And when you least want it. Like in a bad part of Los Angeles. At night, with your girlfriend while on your way to the auto show... I had to accept a tow from a non-flatbed truck.
The ATI is nice. Jan from RMW got me out of a jam on that one. Back on the road less than 36hrs after it broke.
