D-Man, great write-up & the pictures are much appreciated. You're right that you can't paint with a broad brush & apply WRX (for example) theory to the MINI. How'd you get the sprayer(s) to come on at the pre-determined boost & temp?

Thanks Fracky

The sprayers are hooked up to my piggyback ECU. The water sparyers are set to spray at set boost and/or temps.

The piggyback is a Haltech unit

It is pretty cool and you can run a lot of things off it.
I have it set up to run dual maps that I can switch betwwen with the flick of a button.

Here are some more pics...this is the first incarnation there will probably be more to follow

I use a bladder for the reservoir

I also have a cryo sprayer set up (as you can't keep thing too cool ) but that is another story....

My guess would be that the he has set up his Haltech with an AND function based off of of the boost and temp. When booth of those data points are in the right window (boost AND temp) the sprayers kick. The Adaptronic UCONN uses on this year's SAE car has similar functionality.

Again, I wont argue against IDC being the most precise, the question you have to ask your self D-man (and what we are trying to help you with) is does the improvement gained with IDC control warrant the high marginal cost. Without a way to quantify the gains from IDC it is nearly impossible to make a fully informed decision.

I think you are correct as the Haltech does have some multi tasking capabilities.
What I would like to know is what have you done to make the UCONN girls basketball team so fast? 76 and 0 ( sorry about the side track )

Sorry, being an engineering student means I dont keep track of the basketball teams at all. 76-0 though, wow. My thermodynamic professor is actually going to see the final four games.

My last post was incomplete. The biggest benefit of IDC control is increased accuracy (not precision). Both system have the potential to be very repeatable in terms of meth delivered given a certain input parameter, IDC has the benefit of being able to more accurately determine the amount of meth needed. The question becomes then, how much accuracy do you consider necessary.

Update

For the people who are actually interested in performance data I have acquired a second hand aquamist HFS-2 kit at a great price.
I will be doing a rough install and taking it to the dyno for tuning to compare my current boost based system to an IDC type system.
Finally there will be some data so people can make there decision as to what meth kits to get

We did a rough install (still kept in my boost type meth kit in and installed the new kit around it) and the guys at the shop tuned for it....
Now we didn't get any gains better than my "old" progressive boost based system. We actually saw less, however the guys at the shop didn't have alot
of time to play around with it.

Now my question is after seeing all the hype about the IDC type kits am I not seeing massive gains due to BS about theses kits?
Is this the reason there are NO BEFORE AND AFTER DYNOS of these meth kits on a mini with an M45 blower?

Don't know wether to waste some more money playing around with it or cut my losses....

One final thing the tuner used to work at a shop where they were the Australian aquamist dealer/distributer and they have done a heap of installs and tunes with these kits on wrx's.... he commented that for a mini they look like they are not hp gainers like on other cars but would only help in keeping what you have......

a conversation starts in a pub with a guy who works for a local tuner,
who happens to also be a chelsea fan, and has just noticed my blue car and cfc plate parked outside..... the pub is called JT's

out comes 3 dynos/afr from 3 differing rolling roads, giving fly, hub and whp and a long conversation ensues

do you think it would be worth the effort to go to water/meth

[he has famously re-mapped the landlords tt with another 50hp just for "beer money" so knows his stuff]

no al much more of a power keeper, than a power adder at your stage...
[that being around 280 bhp-235whp in england]
ps...name of local tuner in banbury oxfordshire.........prodrive

So it brings us back to my original question.....are the IDC aquamist kits worth the extra money??????
