MCS MK I vs 2004 MCS

I stumbled across a website and found out that the MkI MINI is exactly 100kg heavier over the '04 MCS. I am aware that the MCS has certain changes such as; gearbox, lights, grilles, supercharger coating. But how did MINI manage to shave 100 kg off from the Mk1 cooper s? That is quite a lot!! Never knew that

This is the website

Since those are euro specs...the improvements did not appear in the US till the 05's, it is likely the weight change was just likely the result of a EU reg that shows what conditions must be met to claim a given weight.... Fuel tank level, etc.
The simple fact is, the newer cars are likely heavier...the result of dual stage airbags, weight sensors, etc.....but since it is posted on the Internet, it must be true....
