More Burble please!

I have a 2004 MCS. It only has a little bit of burble. Compared to the 05-06MCS, it is a disapointment.

Will an exhaust alone give more or is a tune/ECU update needed?
I read that the increased burble in 05-06 is from an ECU update, not from an exhaust.

I'd really like to get more burble, not just make my existing burble louder.

Any thoughts? Anyone have an 02-04 MCS that have found a way to get more burble? If so, how did you do it?

Thanks.

The 05-06 MCS

Like I've said, I've done side by side comparison to my friend's 05 MCS and it has tons more burble than my 04.

i would say it sounds more like an 05-06 if i remember correctly how they sound, but i wouldnt say its as much as an aftermarket, but again i could be wrong since i havent heard one of those in a while either. It is definitely worth the cost anyway as it makes the exhaust path MUCH more direct, and the sounds is so much better than stock, definitely adding burble.

If i remember correctly the dealers explanation when my neighbor commented about the burble on his 06 was that it was software related which is the difference between the 04 and the 05-06 models.

That's kinda what I was getting at. I wonder if I'd have to have my ECU tuned to get more burble.
I could see the one-ball making my burble louder but not necessarily more.
Even if te one-ball only accentuates the current burble rather than adding more, I'm sure it's still worth it. Get a more aggressive sound over stock as well as ~2-3 HP.

Thanks.

yup. it is possible that it only accentuates it but seeing as though im the only one that drives my car i never heard it before the one ball mode so from my standpoint the mod makes more.

I am on the quest for the same thing in my 03 MCS.

I have the one-ball done, it does make the burble louder, and gives maybe 10% more burble, but it is not as defined and snappy as the 05-06 burble.

I made a thread about it if you search my username you might be able to find it.

Basically what people said was;

get JCW 380cc injectors and the JCW tune for 380cc injectors and the burble is the same as 05-06

get a RMW / Mynes header

do the one-ball mod

Other than those things theres not much you can do, I'm sure if you got a custom RMW / Mynes tune you could ask for more burble as well.

I bet the stealer charges a $$ for the JCW tune...

I was gonna ask Jan from RMW what I could do to get more on Monday.

Thanks for the tip. Sounds like it might work.

I'm guessing that the "Burble" is caused by the plugs firing on the exhaust stroke too. I know that's the way the ignition is on my '06S. I'm not sure if this was different on earlier MINI years.

I have read that there is a small amount of ignition retard put in during decell from 3000rpm and under, however I have not seen any confirmation but it does make sense.

Have you done the JCW injector/tune or header yet? Be interested in how that affects it.

I can't afford the RMW or Janspeed header though. I'd get the OBX, even though RMW makes a nicer one.
