Year? Mileage?

some possibilities:
SC going bad / lost oil
Crank pulley / damper starting to fail
Valve lifter noise

More description needed. Does it happen only when engine is under load? Can you hear it when revving in neutral? If so, have an assistant rev the motor and see if you can locate the source of the ticking. If not, maybe you are hearing pinging, and need to examine the fuel you are using...

70,000 miles, 05 cooper s

Ill try reving it next to a wall later, i use shell gasoline btw, 93 octane.

I was thinking maybe the supercharger was going bad but im not too sure on what that would sound like. And would it be the actuall supercharger going bad, or just the water pump gears?

Thanks for the help.

I couldnt hear it happening when i wasnt moving. Just reving. I also noticed you really only hear it when WOT. Even if im 50% on it, and boosting, you wont hear it.

I searched through some forums and matched my noise from what people were saying, as the crank pulley noise. When the crank pulley pulls apart into 2 peices. Not sure how to describe it as i almost dont understand it. But it seemed like ppl choose to live with it or replace it.
