BlueMax: I am running the sport setting to begin with--just to get used to it. I will try out race for sure, but already I can see that it might be a little too aggressive a throttle profile for my car. My car is a bit of a handful already, and with the sport setting it takes a "soft touch" to keep it from being too on-off (if I'm making any sense, sorry.)
I can actually see how some would not have liked the effect of the SB without the selectable settings. My friend Terry didn't like it much--but his car was putting down about 245whp and I can appreciate that he wanted a less aggressive throttle profile.
Given that it's so simple to install, and that everyone selling it is happy to take it back within 30 days, I'd recommend trying it out. It certainly changes the way the car responds, but I can see how some people might not like it.
I will be trying it out over the next few weeks, and reporting here. So far, I like it. It will be interesting to see how *I* adapt to it...

Installed my adjustable SB yesterday. Having had the original SB on the car for two years it was nice to actually be able to adjust the setting.Sport seems to be perfect for around town.

Hi, my name is Terry.
Even though the original SB was not for me/my car, I am definitely in favor of anything that works. So, if you have either model SB and you like it, then use the hell out of it and eff all the haters that have never tried it and just say it is snake oil.

To be honest I might have kept mine if it was one of the 2nd gen models with the select-ability. However, for my high-ish HP car the 1st gen model was a negative on the track, it was just impossible to modulate the pedal.

This is one of those products that you must try on your car before you know if it is right for you. So, find a friend with one, or buy one and give it a good testing while you can still return it, if it comes to that.

BTW, the module/switch might look cool mounted in the switch panel area on the Euro Parcel tray.

I will have several Sprint Boosters at AMVIV next week if anyone wants to try it out. And we will be doing FREE installs on them.

Yes, but you still have to becareful with the accelerator clip. It's real eSy to break if you're not careful. Doesn't affect anything of you do though.

Anyone running the SB tried changing it "on the fly?" I don't mean while accelerating to get a nitro-like boost, I mean, selecting another program while idling at the lights? Or do you always turn the car off, select another program, then start it up again?

thanks,
Phil

I haven't tried it yet Dr. Phil. I'm thinking it won't hurt anything, and they don't want you doing while driving because you might do clutch damage or worse, like crash. I'm wondering if the settings will even change unless you kill the ignition?

Well, I tried it tonight from off to sport. While in neutral but didn't turn the car off. It worked just fine. Waylen says you can switch any time--but I'd do that with caution only because the pedal position would be the same, but the throttle position would switch, and it could cause a dangerous situation, I guess.

Still, nice to know you can switch at a set of lights...

I often switch mine on the fly! I have also switched it off at standstill and during acceleration switched it on again - also a nice way to experience the difference it makes.

Something that does not come with the instructions is the fact that the LED stay on for a while after ignition switch off. Good indication of when all power has been removed from the ECU.

When I did the install, I re-did it a few times because it worried me that the light stayed on. Then I left it to see what happens and turns out it works that way! Have FUN

Yeah, I was concerned at first too wiith the light staying on. a lot of times LEDs keep a residual charge to them that slowly goes away. I mounted the switch under the parcel shelf. It's a good hiding spot.

For those interested in the SprintBooster, but not in the US or Canada, keep in mind that SprintBooster is a Greek company. They have dealers all over the world. Here's a list:

http://www.sprintbooster.gr/index2.asp

Hopefully it will save you some money on VAT and exchange rates.

Hey Doc, I'm curious to know what you think of "race". I'v been using the SB1 & like it very well. They say that "race" is SB1.
Glad to see you still have the same car.....

Thanks so much for this thread....all the comments are really useful.
I am new to owning the MCS (only a few weeks) and I have been loving the
car!!!! One thing that I always love....is low end. I mainly only drive around
town...picking up kids from school and such (although this is the first car I
have ever owned that I will actually just take off and go for a Sunday
drive just because). Anyhoo....I just bought and installed the Sprint Booster
(selectable) and it does everything that others have said...in sport mode
it accelerates so quickly that I have actually had torque steer. The pedal
is incredibly responsive and it feels like all that nice high end power is now
open to use at dead stop to speed limit. This is my first mod and I am very
happy with it.

lol... sorry way, but if someone has to have you install the sprint booster for them.. they probably shouldn't be modding their car... no offence to anyone on here. but i believe that if your going to mod your car you should know whats in it. Its not always true, but with the rare exception most people that actually need and can utilize performance parts i find are mechanically inclined, and have a decent understanding of how a car actually works.

although just for kicks and giggles i might let you install it for me :P just because it would be funny cause you know i'd be perfectly capable and would be having you do it just to perturb you :D ... my parents have always told me that i need to stop messing with people ive beuilt relationships with for my own amusement.. my response has always been at least I'm not as bad as my cousin XP

off topic
did you ever get the orange race car sold?

I've read alot of great things about the Sprint Booster. I hardly ever use the Sport mode on my "S" because I find it very jerky for everyday use. I'm concerned that the Sprint Booster will be jerky as well. I appreciate the added get up and go, but as soon as you take your foot off the pedal, it's like the bottom drops out and you've downshifted two gears.

Can you clarify or confirm this for me?

Thanks!!!

Better yet, has anyone "dismantled" a sprint booster to see what's inside it? I am guessing it's about $5 of capacitors and resistors (just like the auto-on sport circuit, which is easily built with $4 of parts from radio shack...) I like the idea of the sporterier throttle, and run in "sport mode" 90% of the time. I think the factory cable plug in/adapter (no cutting required) is great too....but $299 seems a bit ridiculous for a mass produced circuit board...I could see $50 to $75 for the set up...just like Ian Cull's auto Up circuit, which is plug and play, too. I'd thry one...but at $299, not now....

Tchezem,

You're definitely not limited to spending over $300 on a throttle controller. I'm looking at the D1 Spec that is just over $100 and getting the same rave reviews as its much pricier cousins.
