>>What is a Shark Injector?
http://www.stratmosphere.com/mini_shark.htm
In short it is an ECU software upgrade via a small box that connects to the OBD port under your dash.
It works only with one MINI due to the VIN number and allows for easy installation of computer software changes for those owners with various performance upgrades like intake, pulley and exhaust. Hence it is for MCS owners at this time and not released for MC owners. If you want to learn more then call Pete at Stramosphere and ask him.
>>Does it work on an MC?
Nope. But read this about the AmD One Click which is very similar to the Shark Injector and available in Europe now-

Technical info on why to rechip the ECU from AmD

>>How much do they cost and what type of performance do they give?
The shark is about $399 US dollars and the AmD One Click (not available in the US at this time) is about 390 quid in the UK.

If you live in the USA then you are protected by certain laws that state the dealership has to PROVE that the aftermarket addition was directly responsible for the failure. So in short, yes it voids your warrenty, but only if they can prove that it caused the problem. If you get the ECU remapped and your radio will only tune in Rap stations, you will probably be able to prove that it wasnt the ecu upgrade

The big advantage of the Shark injector is ease of use.
The unit itself is sold to the customer and is tuned for the MINI given it's state of upgrades. Once installed it keeps in memory the original ECU settings/program files and installs the upgrade. It only works on one VIN so you cannot share this with anyone else. If you want, you may use the Shark to install the old original version back into the MINI but usually there is no reason to do so.
The dealer cannot tell that the Shark is installed very easily. If your dealer changes your ECU program you can simply change it back using the Shark. Only so many times the ECU can be changed using the Shark- ask Pete at Stramosphere how many.
The cost is reasonable for the gain. $399 for about 9 HP.
