Resonator Removal

My Coop has the JCW exhaust/muffler. Is has a warm tone, but doesn't have any burp. It could, IMO, be a little louder.

I'm torn between replacing the muffler with an aftermarket vs. taking the resonator out and keeping the JCW muffler.

Any thoughts? Anyone done this? Pros? Cons?

Thanks as always for the suggestions.

It's quite common, at least one of the vendors even sells a JCW "resonator removal" kit. Apparently it's got a little coffee can sound to it until the engine warms up.

I've always appreciated the JCW for how refined the exhaust note is.

Here's a few youtube videos for you

Thanks for the input. You mentioned "one of the vendors" provides a JCW resonator removal kit. Could you share who? I'd rather a "bolt on" application as to taking it to a joe blow muffler shop to have it cut out.

i tihnk this resonator removal option does obviously make it louder, so if thats what your looking for then go for it. If you do want a deeper, louder tone with more burble, thats something a nice catback exhaust would take care of for you!

It was sold through minspeed.net. Unfortunately, the site has closed down

You can find a flanged piece of straight pipe at your local Pep Boys or Autozone. You would have to have hangers welded to the sides of the pipe, but it's relatevely straight forward--not necessary for a pre-made kit. I suggest finding a resonator-less JCW exhaust before going through the effort: IMHO that setup sounds like crap.
