Drivetrain Lighter Flywheel R53
Lighter Flywheel R53
Im looking to install a light flywheel on my 03 R53 when the time comes for a new clutch . Im at 110K right now and am sure im on borrowed time before clutch says see ya. Has anyone put one of these things with a better aftermarket clutch on for a mostly daily driver , whose looking for a little track time?. If so what are the Pros & Cons from personal experience . Any help will be greatly appreciated , Thanks...........Burno

I put a Clutchmasters lw flywheel in my car while replacing the clutch and getting a Quaife installed on my R53 which I drive 80 miles to work everyday. I notciced it revs a little quicker and I suppose it frees up a couple hp to the wheels. The only con was the flywheel chatter, but after talking to a few people it seems to be hit or miss on if you'll get it or not
We've had good luck with several customers using Clutchmaster clutches and flywheels on Daily Driver cars. Anytime you change to a lightweight flywheel your going to gain some noise. Basicly since you got rid of the dual mass stock flywheel the noise comes from the flywheel.
Also since your going this far it is a perfect chance for you to add a Quafie differential. You'll love the diff.

Got to be chatter free!
I too am in need of a replacement clutch and flywheel in the very near future and while I intend to install an OEM clutch, I have been considering an aftermarket flywheel.
I am going with the OEM clutch because we (she and I) use the car exclusively as a daily driver (currently) and have to deal with plenty of stop-and-go on our commutes. The benefits of an aftermarket clutch are not for us.
I am considering a non-OEM flywheel because I wouldn't mind reducing the rotational mass to free up the revs and I don't want to shell out big bucks for the OEM flywheel (realoem has it @ ~$1200).
The only thing stopping me from going with a light-weight flywheel is the chatter. I know that it doesn't seem to be consistent from car-to-car but I'm sure that if I have one installed, it'll chatter for sure.
The Cyn-R-G flywheel claims to be segmented and light-weight, can anyone chime in with experience on this unit?
Thanks,
Bryan

I have a before and after vid for the flywheel on youtube...just search for it and I'm sure you'll find it.
As for clutchmasters...I have the FX200 and don't like it, to soft of a feel for my taste. Its softer than stock which takes out some of that driver feel in the car IMO. In my previous S2k I had an ACT clutch at one point and a Competition clutch a little later (recommended by engine builder). Disliked the competition for same reasons as clutchmasters...the ACT I actually liked A LOT and so did anyone and everyone else that drove my car. I'm almost considering just throwing away my current clutchmasters that only has 15k miles on it, I dislike it that much.

Sorry to hear that you dislike your ClutchMasters kit.
My FX200 is stiffer and more precise than my stock clutch.
Have you tried to bleed the clutch again? It's worth a try. If that doesn't work then good luck with your next clutch kit //MZero!

I see you have a Sportone. How is it on the highway? Any measurable increase in power?
