Well, hoses are wear items but cuts from poor fit is not normal wear. The OEM hoses don't have these problems.

I am sure Alta will redo the hoses for the r56 or people may think twice about buying the next new greatest gotta have thing that alta is promising to release.

Each his own. Glad your Alta products are working.

My read from feedback here on NAM is it is hit and miss on quality, customer service is spotty, return policy is a PITA and I can't stand them trolling for business on NAM

Despite all this many line up to defend or diminish their actions, perhaps the owner takes it as a slight on their ride when someone questions the mfg of a mod on their car. Guess I can understand.

After reading this I checked mine after 5 months found a hole in my intake tube too. it was touching the coolant tank witch is plastic no sharp edges and wore a hole thru. after I called and sent pictures they told to just trim it for more clearence. had to put the stock one back on, it was sucking air. I put all 3 tubes on the inkake was mosty for looks it did not help in performance. waiting for new reply from alta since not too helpful fist time around.

soooo OP was a week ago and Alta's only response has been to someone who has called them to trim back the intake tube so the clearance changes (from the coolant tank no less, very sharp those cooling tanks) ?

Alta your so quick to point out your great service why the delay in responding?

Maybe you should post your problem here:

Or contact them yourself...

actually just did post it to that link about a hour ago! thanks all the same

As far as calling....I'm 100% Alta free and will stay that way so I was not the recipient of another fine example of their work. If I was I can assure you I would be all over them like white on rice. Trying to do a public service. Somebody's gotta stop this crap.

Well I think it is a good idea to check your tubes, but Alta has stood up to everything I ever asked so I wouldn't dish them too much crap.

Ever try to build a custom parts company? hmmm no... I didn't think so. I imagine a few things can go sideways... but I like the idea that we have some choices for parts. I bought a couple thousand dollars worth of their parts and they are top notch compared to the competitor parts. If you have a part that is cut then work with them to get it resolved (if it's their fault), or suck it up and buy another one if you fit it incorrectly.

Custom parts??? I don't think so. They, like most manufacturers, don't customize each part based on customer specs. They sell you pre made in stock items. Try asking them for a green turbo tube that is 5 mm larger.

During the day, a friend of mine bought a Volvo and got a free Yugo. He had his Yugo for 2 years before he sold it and never really had problems with it. Even crappy parts can have a good day.

Do look carefully at your boost tubes.

Customer service is easy when everybody's happy and everything works the way it's supposed to. This seems to be one of those situations where you're really gonna find out what Alta's customer service is (or isn't) all about.

Why am I so interested anyway? I bought 2 MINIs in less than a month and mod everything...down to my garden tractor! I drop big money on all of my rides and I'm looking real hard at what's out there right now and what people like and don't like. Not liking this right now, at all. Fortunately there's at least one other show in town (Exhaust Depot's hard pipes) which is definitely looking like the way to go...

I'm gonna have to say that I have all 3 tubes and none of mine are injured in any way (I am also in my engine 24/7 so its would be hard for me to miss) And let me just say, coming from someone who just left behind his 04 MCS that runs a 5.3 0-60 (I have this time recorded for whoever doesn't believe me) Alta is one of the best companies anyone could buy from. Check your tubes and watch for it because no matter what silicon hoses you buy this will happen to ALL of them. As for those of you going to Exhaust Depot, all I have to say is any company that sells a $298.00 down pipe is a joke, don't buy anything from them.

Not defending Alta here but how long did you guys have these on cause I am checking mine when I get home. But they are silicone and they do expand and retract so they could rub somewhere and hell its silicone not metal they tear instead of scratch. If you had the metal ones you probably would have seen scratches in the same place.

If a company like ALTA design the tubes and sell it all around the world, it supposed that they had consider this point....

Well after my rant I checked mine and the coldside by the TB is starting to get a hole rubbed in it. I am considering replacing it. I have to check the hotside too but, the intake tubing is fine.

if ED's $298 downpipe is a joke, does that make RR's $499 a comedy club?

It's just another one of their products that was rushed and designed with "engineering by the seat of your pants" thinking. They do have a few solid products, but this certainly isn't one of them.

From what R53 owners have told me in my local mini club, Alta used to be top notch. But dang, the quality started to go downhill with the R56 parts.

Exhaust Depot is a great company too. That downpipe you're looking at is probably regular steel. You can get it in stainless, but for a higher price. There are many happy customers that have dealt with Hector's company and he's one of the only guys that sell a high-flow catted downpipe that won't throw a CEL. That's just crap isn't it!

Well, you've either got the Exhaust Depot or Samco. I don't have experience with Samco but I know Chad at DetroitTuned does. I'd contact him directly...
