Supercharger pulley swap

I have a friend with a ALTA 15% supercharger pulley that he says I can take if I replace with a stock one.

My understanding is that the stock supercharger pulley is a one time use; you have to toss it if you remove it. Is this true?

Can the ALTA 15% pulley be removed from one car and installed on another?

The Alta can definitely be swapped, but re-installing the OEM could be difficult/impossible. In the dawn of the new MINI, the procedure called for heating the pulley in an oven to several hundred degrees so that it would slide on over the supercharger spindle. There is significant risk of not getting the pulley properly aligned.

+1 I tried to reinstall a stock pulley, got it good and hot, but you almost need to have the supercharger sitting next to your oven. It went about halfway before it started to cool and not budge. You also need to be carefully to get the backspacing correct or it will just eat belts and leave you stranded (or him stranded).

Is this true for both new and used OEM pulleys?

I would think so. It's a tapered fit, I think maybe if you heated it up, got it started, you could draw it on the rest of the way with a bolt in the shaft. Don't know, I'm sure someone has got one back on somewhere!

If I recall, when I bought my 17% from helix a couple years ago, they offered a stock size pulley. Give them a call.

Ack... So it seems I'd be better off just buying a new 15% for my car. Half the labor...
