Doug - I can't tell you how BADLY I need a cheese steak from Philly. I believe I've been to Geno's and had a chicken Philly cheese steak. When I come back from visiting Philly, I am depressed for weeks eating lunch around here in Orlando. So boring ... so tasteless. *sigh*

So what's this about a pully?

~Steve~

*dreaming of REAL Philly Cheese steak*

I am thankfull that my Jobs keeps me around that area very often. I have to stop buy and see Eric on Monday anyway. Cheesesteaks Anyone?

The 17% pulley is performaning nicely. Car is still running cool and pulls very strong. More testing at the drag strip tomorrow.

Additionally it isn't totally about more boost - it is about moving the boost to more usable rpm ranges...But again the the rev limit could be set slightly lower and the usable power range would be better and it would still would not pass the redline that the 15% gives, but you would have a better powerband...We are not talking about running 20psi of boost, we are talking about boost available at a wider range.
This is what I've been talking about! (In this thread and the other.) I'm not looking for much more horsepower/torque than stock. I'll take what the 15% offers, but I want all the torque that I can get to be available in a nice usable package for me at 3000-4000 RPM! That's why I see almost infinite appeal of a smaller pulley coupled with an ECU remap easing back on the redline. That way, you're not running the engine any harder, you're just running the supercharger (and therefore boost) as if it were at 6000 RPM in stock form, meanwhile, you've only got the engine spinning at 4000 RPM. It works for me! As far as pulley sizes go, 19% sounds great, and the other thread had arguments that you wouldn't be able to get too deep into the 20%+ range before you'd be up against some real "physical" limitations.

Good times...and keep posting! I'm going to hold off on my pulley purchase for a little while longer

Well I am happy to report that I know have over 1,000 miles since switching to a 17% smaller pulley. I have not seen any ill effects except for more front tire wear. Air intake temps are looking to be about the same as they were with the 15%. 5th and 6th gear continue to pull very strong. More tests to come this week and all through November

What about us Californians with 91 octane pump gas? I have access to 101 octane, but with the amount of driving I do I can't afford to only pump that (or even just put in a couple gallons on every fill-up). Is our only choice the 15%? What about doing the 17% with a software upgrade that will safely allow the car to run on 91.

regards,

amir

Hmm I have not thought about testing it on 91 Octane. I will have to look into that. There will be more testing at the dragstrip this week as well as dyno testing in the weeks to come.

Well why do you guys in California need more power? You have nicer roads and better weather and you always want more...lol.

I will talk to Eric @ Helix and see what we can do for the Californians

Keep up the good field research guys....now Im starting to wish I had a 17-19% pulley with a ECU re-map to lower the rev limiter....(wipes drool from corner of mouth) The added torque of the 15 is pure orgasmic...but just like everything pleasureable.....too much is never enough

Since I have a helix 15% reduction pulley, shouldn't I be able to just unbolt the 15 and replace with 17-19, right? All's I need is a belt tensioner tool, tiny hands and an alan wrench....right? or would I have to pay someone to go through the contorsions of jacking up the motor like the install? I know it's not completely tested, but just looking ahead.

More news on the 17%:

Almost 2000 miles and no problems.

Raced a Mini that run's 14.4 in the quarter (bmp intake, Magnaflow exhaust, 15%). We did 2 runs, one from third gear at about 55 and one from second at about 35. He would get a little jump on me but then I would pull on him gradually. The 17% pulley is just giving you a little more to pull away.

(Both Cars have been weighed at the track and weigh around 2600 lbs w/o driver)

Do not forget my car is running a K&N Intake and 17% pulley only!

That's not what I expected. I know you have the stock exhaust and only a drop-in intake but with more boost earlier and more lower-end torque I would have expected you to get the jump, if anything. I would expect the Magnaflow to give him the advantage at higher RPMs, possibly.
