Oil leak at tappet cover

I checked out my engine bay and i noticed that there were some oil ontop by the tappet cover, head gasket compartment, just where the headers bolt onto the head. There were some oil located at that area. I wanted to know if this is a common problem? If it isnt then what is the fault and what should be done about it?
Thanks

My 2004 MCS developed this same problem at about 70K. I'm told it is not uncommon.

It's simple: RE and RE your valve cover gasket.

My car was in the shop (independent) for installation of lower control arm bushings when the diagnosis was made. New gasket was installed. Cost around $250 (parts and labor) as I recall. Yes, I probably could have done it myself.

So once you replaced the gasket, oil no longer creepd out ontop by the header area where it bolts on?

Is this a serious issue? What if i just leave it?

R53, I have not experienced this problem. RE and RE=remove and replace.

I changed mine when I did a camshaft RE and RE.

I'll do anybody's valve cover gasket RE and RE for $250!

First I would check the tourque on the valve cover bolts. If a few are not up to spec then that may be the cure. BUT if it were me I'd replace the valve cover gasket.
