CARB Exempt Cold Air Intake

Hey all!

I'm new here and I recently got myself a MCS 2006 so I apologize if I posted this in the wrong place.

I was wondering if there are any good CARB Approved CAI out there?

(I live in California)

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks

I've sold several DDM intakes in black to people in CA and they don't have a problem since it looks stock.

Otherwise I usually ship the JCW intakes to CA.

Thanks for the help! Just a quick question:

In the Special Notes It says : Stage 3 Engine Software recommended.

Is it really necessary what are the downs and ups of having this Software?

I don't have it. No down side, but a tune can add HP.

Personally I'd rather have a custom tune, done on a dyno.

I noticed that the Dinan CAI only comes with the Box+filters but no hose, I'm guessing we use the original hose not like Alta's CAI v2.0?

AFE's Stage 2 CAI has recently been certified by CARB. It includes the box w/ lid, dry filter and a new metal intake tube. Nice set-up.

I Got a Dinan CAI, I'll probably be installing it this weekend.

Thanks Again!

Hey I installed the Dinan CAI a few days ago, and i was wondering, when i attached the filter to the air box, the filter was tilted up for better holding versus straight horizontal with the box. Is this normal?

Thanks

My Mini is in California now and I didn't know about the CARB laws. I have an Alta 2.0 intake on it and need it to pass. Any suggestions? PM if you don't feel comfortable posting here.

CARB Exempt Cold Air Intake

One of the previously mentioned CARB certified air intakes, AFE, Dinan, JCW or the original stock setup
will be required to pass the visual inspection in order to register the car in California.

If you fail the visual they will not test the car.

Hope this helps...

Its not just to register, you have to get your car smogged every so often and it gets inspected then too. Also a few months back a cop had me pop my hood and he wrote me up for modified emissions due to a DDM Works air intake + no front license plate + tinted windows + loud exhaust. Not only do you have to change to either stock or carb certified air intake box but you then have to go to a special emmisions referee station for certification, that isn't real convenient because they're few and far between, and its not over then you have to appear before a judge to show them your paper work. There is no way round the personal court appearance. So I've now sold my DDM and went to Dinan with its carb sticker to avoid all this potch in the future.

Wow, you got popped for a DDM on the STREET?! Ugh. I recently bought a used Dinan - no carb sticker on it, though. I'll see if they balk in a year or so. I figure it looks pretty stock.
