Old alta pulley vs new

So the shop that I plan on having change my SC pulley tells me that they prefer the old style alta pulley to the new style. Can anyone explain to me what the difference is?

Do you have a stock puley now or are you changing out a smaller one?

Not sure about the differences, but they really won't effect the perfromance.

Or you could call Jarid at Alta and get the actual differences.

The V2.0 definitely a better pulley. Here is a little quote from our site..."Oversized belt retainers and grooved belt teeth, decrease the possibility of belts jumping off, and increase belt grip. Cooling holes are drilled into the belt retainers to keep pulley temps in check. A decorative end cap faceplate provides a clean sleek look." Thanks for the shout out Bigshot! You coming to the airshow this weekend?

Ethan -- I presume Pete would be doing the job for you? (He said the same thing to me re: Alta's old and new designs, fwiw.) Did you ask him directly why he prefers the old to the new?

Sorry, Ted; multitasking!

15 or 17?

I'm leaning towards 15 right now. I was set on 17, but the more people I talk to the more it sounds like the difference between the two is pretty slim when it comes to butt dyno.

And I don't want to get an anxious 'you shouldn't be doing this' feeling every time I take it to 7k rpms, which is apparently too fast for the supercharger at 17%.

I'm a relatively broke entrepreneur at this point in my life, so keeping things as reliable as possible is priority 1.

I just installed a v2 a few weeks back - love the design, super easy to remove the stock and install the new, and what a difference...kinda wish I went for a 17% but the 15% is so bulletproof in comparison.

Now for an alta intake....

A 17% at 7700rpm is flirting with problems as this is way past the safe range for the water pump and for temps.

I just installed my Alta V2 15% pulley with tensioner stop, napa 535 belt, and brisk plugs. Great product and the reason i did 15% was because i'm still under extended warranty and wanted to stay save. I say if you want reliability go with 15%. I did and i feel good about it. IMHO its less to worry about than 17%

Temps at 30+ outisde stay under 60°C at WOT and with water inection on under 45°C.
At 25° outside temperatures are so low that isn't worth talking about.

Cool, so you are using a stock IC!

If I was going to choose between those two I'd pick the classic. The all stainless steel design is the best among several other things. Ask most MINI shops you'll find we all prefer the SS ones.

As for what pulley we use, we actually have our own WMW pulley and it is closer to the classic in design, SS design but has a lip on the front and rear for better belt holding. Also it has a hole in the center for easier install and alignment verification. Never had any problems installing one, and we also include it in our Pulley package.

LOL

Check out this thread http://www.motoringalliance.com/foru...e-numbers.html

Stock IC still performs best as a stand alone IC.

Bollocks! That thread just says that the standard A2A made X intake numbers. The other great intercooler thread said the GRS was the best A2A.

That thread also says that W2A is better, which is what both me and Kavs run.

90c inlets on a 30c day means the stock intercooler works 'best'. stfu!
