Alta Twurbo Kit YES or NO?

Hey
Looking to buy/ research the Alta Mini Twurbo kit.
I have an 05' MCS JCW with about 30,000 miles on it. No other current upgrades besides wheels tires and a 16% supercharger pully.
Does anyone have an opinion? I was going to to the labor myself as I work at an auto shop but I would still be throwing down about $3,500 on the kit itself.

Has anyone had problems with the kit?
Are there better Turbo/Twurbo kits out there?
Is anyone selling?

Thanks

Based on what I've read, a twin charge type of system is very hard to get sorted out. It's one thing if you want to do it for the challenge, but quite another if you are looking for dependable power. For that kind of money, talk to Jan at RMW - I'm sure he can set you up with all the power you want.(within reason, what ever that is)

Mynes if you want to do a turbo swap. RMW if you want to swap to a TVS supercharger (whenever they finish development on the thing).

Outside of that, either one of the shops can make you copious amounts of power sticking with the stock forced induction setup.

/waits for flame war

That said, it will be a lot easier to make suggestions if we know what your end goal for the car is.

the alta twurbo kit will only give you about 250 whp safely withouth doing the head and pistons.

You can acheive these numbers with just a head and cam and tune, and you can save yourself about 1000 bux.

I have also been told that the alta kit had alot of issues with the manifold, and leaks overtime. Not to say that this isnt common of other kits. just saying if you dont mind the day to day maintenance it would be cool. but if you want piece of mind, get a big valve head, cam and tune

I don't know whose head, cam and tune costs $2500... unless you meant headers, cam and tune.

Thumper head - $1300 to $1700
RMW cam - $400
RMW tune - $350 plus $100 dyno time
total - $2150 to $2550

I have the Thumper head and RMW cam. Missed the RMW Louisville tune so I can't comment on the final package. However, the head and cam together are impressive.

In the op's first post it appears he is doing the work himself. Also, shipping would have to be paid on the Alta, so it's not a factor.

you can save an additional $100 by having a cam regrind, vs paying $400 plust shipping for the newman/rmw cam.

Check out old threads on Thrubo, code prone from what I recall.

I don't know anyone who had a great running/idling twurbo system. Seems most the folks who got it ended up hating it.

My question is, do you order the re-ground cam and then send in yours in return? or do you have to remove yours, send it in, and wait? My MINI is a daily driver, and I can't have it immobilized.

Sorry for thread jacking.
