Has anyone removed the resonator on the Mini cooper s magnaflow exhaust. Im thinking about doing it.

 

I removed mine after I melted the fiberglass packing(one too many track days...). I replaced it with a 2.5" straight pipe. I didn't want the car to be any louder, but I needed to do something about the rattling resonator. It's a bit louder now, but no huge difference, it does drone more on the highway (this gets old in a hurry). Unless you have a reason to do this, not sure it's worth the effort.

Read all the posts on the battery relocate and straight exhaust. As onasled says, the drone gets old very quickly... I finally got rid of it with a Helmholtz resonator, which is a very fancy way to do it, but it works. Be very careful what you subtract from the exhaust system.

...and I am highly dubious that messing with the exhaust produces significant performance improvements on anything but the most highly modified and tuned Mini. It does impact the sound though.

 

I took mine off my Borla system because I heard how nice it sounded removed from a magna flow system. Now I have a little louder tone (sounds much more aggressive), and I get a lot more burble and pop sounds whenever I let off the gas. It even does it on the highway.

Remove it! you'll love the new attitude that becomes unleashed!
and it's only $20 from most any exhaust shop!
