I also believe this is a pretty good question.....
I think that for one.... A lot of times more power equates to better driveability. I know with the pulley my MCS is easier to drive and I can get a little lazier (less shifting)
For others they might do AutoX or some sort of thrack thing
I took mine out to a open road race and a thing called a half mile shootout. Now, having done it once...I need to do it again but, this time a little faster. Hence the need for some additional mods.
Plus the MCS is mod friendly...There is a plethora of things to buy and places to buy them. Most mods are fairly easy installs for do it your selfers and provide some sort of of an enhancement to performance.
I don't think that just because you have a modded MCS you have to go 125 down a freeway or try to out run a ricer. Personally it does not bother me one bit to have some kid in a riced up Civic blow me off at a red light....I know what I have and it does not have to prove a thing!

Don't worry, if anyone were to get flamed it'd be the originator of this thread.

Why did you buy your MINI? Some of it was due do it's looks, but almost certainly some of it has to do with it's performance, right? You enjoy your MINI don't you? Does it have something to do with its looks and performance? Probably. So, what if you can increase your enjoyment of your MINI by increasing its performance.

That's what I've done. I love the way my MINI looks. Haven't changed a think visually on it since I picked it up from the dealer, but I've added an intake, pulley and rear swaybar, and as a result I enjoy it even more. (Ironically, I think it looks better after the performance upgrades, since I know what lies beneth )

I have put in the pulley, Alta intake and 22mm Alta bar. This is the best $800 you can spend on the car. The car is as quick as I need it. Rarely run it out on the street, but when I do, I frankly don't need another half second off my 0 - 60 time. It cruises comfortably at the 85 - 90 mph the cars go on the freeway here. it corners flat. The steering is as responsive as any car on the road.

Biggest goal now is to learn how to drive it fast at autocross. It has so much more potential than I am able to get out of it that the next series of mods have to be to me.

I do the performance mods for Fun, Food, and my kids college tuition!

We spend most of the day, making our 2 Cooper S's go fast.
Car #1 (BMP 001) Bluethunder 243hp This car has recieved almost every mod possible. Full Supersprint exhaust from header to tailpipe, 262 deg. performance cam, Water cooled intercooler, with Ice box, and a 19% over drive supercharger pulley, with software mods.

Car #2 (BMP 002) Silver Sonic, this little screamer just recieved the Turbo treatment. (No, this is not a gimmick fuel additive) Running 18psi of boost, this one is quick. Mods include Garrett T3 watercooled turbo, custom BMP header, Adjustable wastegate, and Blow off valve. full Supersprint system after the down pipe, Custom intercooler, radiator, oil cooler. And yes, a BMP racing air filters.

We have not replaced the cam or ported the head.

Both cars are running Tar-ox brake kits front & rear. And H&R coil overs, with bars.

Although I've done this for a living for over 32 years, It's still my hobby!

> I enjoyed working on my 911, easy car to play with, I am learning about the MCS and its just as fun, I think their will be a point where I may stop, but their is so much that you can do to these and make them "Your Own" thats what I like seeing, all the different things.

I agree. It's only partially about the speed. Mostly it's about tinkering with your car and getting to know it and making it unique. Ok, mostly it's about the speed.

I've had a couple of 911s too (87 Carrera, 78 930 big time modified), and the Mini is just as much fun to drive without the jerk factor.

I was going to do some mods, pulley, intake, exhaust, then went to the dealer and drove the works demo and decided, for my around town driving just wasn't that big a deal...the works at $5K, well I looked at the sales guy riding with me and said, you got to be kidding and he laughed saying I agree, he had a stock MCS. I can see the mods for a tinkerer that enjoys doing the work, because the price is so much less plus the satisfaction of hands on work which is pretty cool...but to pay someone $5K for such a modest performance boost just doesn't make since to me, ....I did mod to lighter 16" alloys and yokos from the dreadfull runflats which made a huge difference in handling, so further suspension mods sound really intriguing instead of engine mods to get more handling fun out of the MCS....but Randy is right, whatever floats your boat, go for it !

Do you performance modders all race your cars? NOT I

Or is it about bragging with friends at your favorite watering hole? (Nothing wrong with that) COULD BE.... I alway find my self sharing the laundry list of mods ..that I've accrued

Why do you do performance mods?
Truth be known ..it's because I like to know that the power is there...if and when... I need it

Peace,
D.

What do you DO with your extra power?
Simply have more fun driving. I can choose to drive slower or not.

>>Do you performance modders all race your cars? [b]NOT I
Nope but some do. Maybe less than half. Quite a few of us do car rallys with our local clubs and have some fun.

>>
>>Do you just enjoy taking the car apart and putting it back together? KINDA..SORTA (I subscribe to the "erector set" ..mentality)
For some this is fun and economic.

Besides bragging, I think it is that others that like MINIs can appreciate what you have done and see how it all fits together the way you like it to be.

>>Why do you do performance mods?
The MINI is extremely mod friendly and has a rich heritage of being made unique for it's owners.
It's really just exercising the choice to do so and a fun hobby. Would you rather I go and spend the $$$ in Las Vegas?
