I've seen the pics in the "MINI vs. Mountain" thread and still think pillar mounts are doable. Maybe someone could make them "race only", I'd sign that waiver!

I helped Pro mini design their Nav equipped pod way back in the day. It works perfectly and looks almost " stock. Get in touch and see if they currently stock them.

So you think this would be wide enough to fit around the Alta guage pod? Do these get hidden by the steeringwheel when the driver is positioned in the driver's seat?

I can read both gages from the driving posistion. They are just inside the rim of the wheel.

why not just cut the promini bracket down the middle - attach one half to the tach and the other half to the speedo?

should give you the effect you are seeking.

That's what I thought but I didn't like cutting up a $300 piece so I did the same with $20 worth of aluminum and two Autometer cups

or you could put the guages in the vents either side of the speedo....however, I find the closest one to the driver is obscured by the steering wheel, but the far one is good - you could even mount it inside a vent so you can swivel it...

Yep, I've seen this done. Hubie's done that with his car. Unfortunately, these are not in the line of sight.
I have two guages I want to keep a close eye on without losing my vision on the road.

check this out!

http://www.defi-shop.com/product/con...ncept_top.html

I realise it may not include the guages you are interested in, but man - isn't that cool! Funny how it's a technology that's decades old, but it's still not prominent..

I think Nissan tried it with some of it's cars in the 90's....

Thanks for the link. That's awesome!!

I'm not sure why you think this doesn't have the gauges I'm interested in. It has even more than I'm interested in:
  • Exh T
  • Water T
  • Oil T
  • Oil P
  • Fuel P
  • RPM
  • speed

Well then...perhaps it was a help...

I'm struggling to find some back-lit gauges like the oem ones...ie. silver face, orange back lit.....have you seen any anywhere?

Sure, Autometer ultra lite's look almost like OEM.

Tit, my brothers Vette has a HUD, we did a long road trip/caravan for the 50th Corvette Anniversary very nice to the drive by day or night. Afraid it would be very expensive to duplicate in a MINI.
I have three more gauges to install water temp., oil temp.,oil pressure. I pretty much have ruled out the A pillar due to safety concerns.
I acquired a 3 gauge swivel & tilt mount that needs some paint to match. Looks like the top of the dash will be the location.
Who has a how to for removing the dash cover???.

That's from an old post, he fabricated it as a one off I think, to bad they are not available I would reconsider the A pillar.
He must have access to vacuum forming equipment. Once the mold is made you can bang them out for pennies a piece.
All those generic ones you see for like $30.- $12. only cost cents to make
Hey vendors, here is your opportunity to bring a needed part to market.

Wow...that is very neat...

I couldn't find a pic of the mini I saw with the guages in the middle of the dash. It's this car from Melbourne, Australia, but I can't find any inside piccies:

I figured that it was a custom job but maybe it will get someone's creative juices flowing.

Minionrails has a neat idea. I went and found his thread and he said he made it from bondo, fiberglass, and an A-Pillar cover.

While only a single pod, I bought an autometer extended bracket for under 10 bucks modified it to fit my tach pod. Since the bracket was autometer it was designed to accept the autometer cup. This whole set-up was somewhere between 70-80 bucks - bracket, cup and guage. What I really like about it that I was able to determine exactly where the guage appeared - I chose the 8 o'clock position. I used a single screw and a piece of double stick tape to hold it in place so I can change it.

I think it looks pretty good too.

The problem in the USA, is that only the passenger will be getting a good look at the gauges!

That's $43.99 USD before shipping. I'll pass on the crash method.
Okay, anybody removed an A-pillar cover? How did you do it.?

remove waetherstripping.
pry the cover up, its got 4 clips holding it on.
pull away from the actual a pillar, then cut the retaining straps.

i assume your going to be putting a gauge there.
there is a nice space to fish your wires and nylon line up thru near the base of the a pillar, you cant miss it.

and theres a grey/red wire right near there that will assist in lighting up your gauge.
