Getting it dynoed and have some questions
Hey I am going to get my 2007 Mini Cooper S Automatic dynoed up at the Concord Speedway here in Concord. However when I scheduled the appointment they requested the 1 to 1 on the car. I honestly have no idea what that even is much less what it is for my car. Anyone here that can help me?
They were asking what gear has the closest ratio to 1:1. It is generally 4th...but I'm not sure what the ratios of the auto are.
Auto's can be a little funky to dyno sometimes cuz they wont hold a gear...

Yeah... when I dyno'd my car with Jan at Speedwerks, here's what we had to do...
1) set the dyno to start reading at a higher RPM than usual... I think it was about 3000-3200RPM
2) set the dyno for 3rd gear ratio on the MINI
3) put the tranny in "manual" mode
4) very gently work your way up to third gear, without exceeding the threshold RPM you set for the dyno when in 1st or 2nd - this is VERY tricky and usually takes several tries to get it just right - if you give it too much gas, it revs up and the dyno starts the run. If you don't give it enough gas, it will stall and auto-downshift.
5) as soon as you successfully get it in 3rd gear, floor it, but NOT all the way to the floor - you have to stop at the "kickdown" point, or else it will downshift. You will also probably mess this up a time or two... ask me how I know.
6) celebrate when you finally get it right and get a "clean" run...

I have dyno'd 2 times in 3rd gear with my 07 MCSa.
Two different techs worked the throttle and dyno controls.
As Blimey stated, you have to get the dyno rolling without a kickdown and you do not want to hit over-boost as it will cause the automatic to kick-down.
We found 3rd gear to be the most consistant. HP figures were consistant across to different days on the dyno, similar condtions.
See the dyno thread over in MINI5280 club area.
