I know the Getrag 5 speed is coming out next year on the Cabrios but has anyone heard if there is going to be a retrofit for those o us sucking with the R65? Since they haven't changed the chrysler to the peugot engine yet wouldn't you think they'd fit? Hope they're cheap[er than the 6 spped (5k)

Just curious, what's your beef with the current 5-speed? "Sucking" seems a bit harsh. What sub-$20k car has a more fun, satisfying gearbox?

The issue is with the boxes inabiity to handle additional torque. There are those of us who find the ride exhilerating but the power a bit lacking in the MC. I don't want an S but I do want more power (and better handling) out of my favorite car. So if your not going to play with the engine the the R65 should be fine for you, for those of us seeking more power, its the weak link in the system and there fore sucks.

Gotcha. I do recall seeing info posted on MCO a while back about installing the MCS Getrag 6-speed in the Cooper. I think the installed price was $3,000-ish! One of the larger aftermarket companies had it posted on their site, but I don't recall which it was.

That site would be Mini Mania.

I assume it would drop right in. It will be interesting as the motor changes and boxes become more available.

WOW. Just checked it out (thanks!), and the price for the parts alone is $5272.50!!! I'm almost positive that's a LOT more expensive than when it was first offered. Wonder why.

Anyway, good luck finding the 5-speed if that's what you're looking for, and I hope it's more reasonably priced!
