Drivetrain Cusco LSD done!
Do you have lightened flywheel as well? I use the Cusco LSD fluid.
I have the OEM flywheel and clutch.
I was curious about the fluid in your application, as it has had an impact on OEM clutch type LSD noise. I think the manufacturer’s recommendation for short fluid change intervals is interesting http://www.jdm-option.com/eng/pr_CUSCO/oil.html , that’s probably good advice for OEM LSD owners also.

Yes that's the Cusco fluid I used.
I have almost identical set up as funracer, except that my clutch is FX200 instead of his FX400. Probably the growling sound is what I'm talking about. And some clutch working sound when doing in-gear slowing down.
"funracer", can you chime in?

Mine definitely makes a low growl at low speed. I don't notice any rubbing or working during engine breaking but I rarely do that (I use the break pads instead). As to what is "normal" I am not sure as this is the first LSD car I have driven and I don't know what is considered normal. I autocross my car and feel the performance upgrade will be worth the small amount of extra noise.
Have just finished first 500 miles since install and clutch breakin. Planning on oil and tranny fluid change this weekend and then I should be good to go.
FEI check your PM.
Regards

Finally got my Cusco LSD installed. As I'm still breaking-in my clutch, so I'm taking it easy. The improvements:
1. Accelerating on snow was never as good as now. Now I can accelerate easily on snow without wheel slipping or DSC intervening. So far I haven't broken the traction when accelerating on snow on a straight line. Feels like an AWD SUV now! Just a bit lower, smaller, lighter and less ugly.
2. Accelerating over road imperfection or bumps is also seemingless, as there is no more instant power-loss on them.
3. Cornering on dry pavement feels much easier than before, just like on a straight road. Car doesn't feel any pushing to the outside. Throttling it on the corner does not feel any understeer. Sweet! I can feel the torque differences between two front wheels. It does wonder to balance the cornering force deltas on the front wheels.
4. Steering wheel feels lighter and more sensitive. Especially when cornering, the steering wheel has a much lower centering force, making it quite effortlessly. The car corners fast without me noticing it now.
The only drawback is the extra sound. When on gear slowing down, there's some sort of "clutch-rubbing" noise. When accelerating, there is also extra sound, making the sound louder. However, I can't tell it apart from my Alta CAI. The noise is more prominent when cornering slowly on the first gear. I could hear that partly because my car is quiet (for the wife and the kid). I only have Alta CAI, don't have aftermarket exhaust and I have some sound shield foam in the boot.
The noise is more than my friend's 2008 OEM LSD equipped MCS. But I was told by the mechanic that it's the quietest one he has heard from other people with Quaifes. I can live with that.

well said
It is amazing, the ONLY drawback is the extra noise when turning in 1st gear. The cornering is so much better than the quaife, I didn't think it would be this good. If you are looking for quiet this isn't the LSD for you.
If you want the best cornering experience...
this is the diff for you
i was thinking of getting a LSD , can someone tell me the rough price of getting one installed ?

update ... no shop in towns so far will even do the job , anyone know where i can download instructions on how to install the cusco lsd ?

Hate to bump such an old thread, but I'm doing my install this week and was wondering where everyone is ordering or getting a hold of that Cusco LSD fluid?
Cusco's listed US vendor doesn't seem to have it, though the UK one does. With needing to order enough for the initial install and after the 500 mile break in, and then wanting to keep regular/frequent change intervals, I'm wondering if there isn't a better or more local source I'm missing? TIA

have you checked here: http://www.napsusa.com/ ? they would be my first choice. if you are still having troubles finding it in the US, pm randy smalley. cusco is one of his sponsors and he has always been very helpful in answering questions.
edit: after a little digging around on the above linked site, i found that they had all three types of fluids in stock.

Is there any overall conclusion that has been developed on the difference between the cusco or the quaife? Based on popular opinion it seems as though most have gone with the Cusco setup, however I was curious if anyone can offer an opinion on the Quaife? is there any data that could help validate these claims or has RMW done the R&D and Cusco has shined through?
what a thread resurection. Cusco was the hot diff in '09. the current LSD of choice for racers is the OS Giken. RMW, RSR racing and many others now choose the OSG. both the Cusco and OSG are way better than the Quaiffe for track applications.
i'll give you credit for using the search function.

I don't have too much knowledge about the LSDs but I would like to install one in the future.
after the break-in period is over, what needs to be done regarding the LSD?
do you have to break the tans open again to change the oil in the LSD?
From what I understand, the transmission needs to be dismantled twice in a period of 500miles, this seems like a lot of work.
again, I know very little about all this so my question might be completely stupid, sorry if it's the case.
