One Ball Exhaust

I've been kicking around the idea of doing the one ball mod on my 04 MCS. I have a 17% Alta V2 and a CAI. I was looking to get more HP on a budget but I'm afraid this mod will make my car sound like those ricers with the useless coffee cans on the back of their cars. The other thing is that I don't want to have a terrible drone inside the car either.
What are your experiences with this mod and will I actually see an increase in performance? I am the type of person to do something that yields results not just because it's "cool".
No offense to anyone just that way I am.
Thanks in advance for the replies!!
Joe

I did mine yesterday and the sound is very nice. Low growl that does not drone inside the cabin. You get some good weight reduction out of it and I would speculate that the faster flowing exhaust gases would yeild some sort of minor gain.

Maybe someone else has dynoed it but I am not sure. But the sound factor and weight reduction is very nice.

One ball is excellent - a little raspy when cold, sounds very good when warm, and (at least for me and many others) no drone.

I had one-ball and made 194 HP at the wheels. It never sounded ricey at all and about 15% louder than stock with the added benefit of less flow restriction. I have the IE cat-back now that sounds better & deeper and barks more.
Go for it.

That's a good price but it's probably not a stainless steel. I got my SS re-route pipe from Minspeed for $120 but got back $40 when I sold it local.

I made mine with stainless, the tubing cost me $55 to do. No drone, sounded not much louder than stock, and didn't add that much power to really notice, but its so inexpensive! The weight savings is good too.

Thanks for all the replies!
I drive a BMW 745 and like that I can't hear anything when inside. I kind of want the same for the mini. My car is triple black with a few chrome accents and the factory aero kit. It looks very clean and classy and that's how I'd like to keep it. I guess that's part of my concern with doing the one ball exhaust. I really don't want to draw attention to myself and turn the car into something that looks like a teenager would be driving.

How is it when driving inside under normal driving conditions and cruising on the highway?

Please don't take any offense to this as there is nothing wrong with that. I'm just a little older and past that phase of my life but trust me I went through it.

Thanks again!!
Joe

I daily drive mine, and my wife hasn't noticed a difference when inside the car compared to stock (or at least not enough for her to mention). It is a "touch" louder inside the cabin at higher RPM's and WOT, but under normal driving, you won't really notice it. I'm very happy with it.

There are a bunch of soundclips on Youtube if you put in "one ball exhaust"

it doesn't sound ricey at all. you'll like the crackle and burble you hear every now and then. my friend said she likes the sound and can recognize my car just by the exhaust... but it's not because it's loud or obnoxious.
